TwiggzSA Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 A LBS says my headset is warn and needs to be replaced. I don't dispute this, something hasn't been right for a while. The bike is 4/5 months old, should the headset wear out that quickly? I ride about 2-3 time per week. It's an open bearing assembly. Any comments?
DR ◣◢ Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 If you bought the bike brand new then surely the headset should be under warranty? Did the bike go in for it's first service? If so when? I have had headsets last for years with no problems at all.
V12man Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 There is no way a headset should wear out in 5 months if properly installed and set up - provided you don't wash the grease out you should be good for years - my singlespeeds headset is 22 years old....
Spinnekop Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 5 months? No way. I do about 20 000km on a headset. Bearing should last.... Open it up. Check the bearings. Get it from a hardware/spares shop. Replace.
