Looked to me like it was just a case of finding himself too far down in that first lap; to ride up to and within 30sec of the worlds best takes some doing.

No, dude, of course not, my favourite is riding along the beachfront although I do find some of those gaps in the paving to be a little disconcerting and I often walk those.

I agree wit Dangle, Fontana's performance was very inspiring. His passion for the sport is very evident in the way he rides.

 

Burry raced like a true hero as well and he made me super proud to be a ZA mountain biker.

 

Did you guys see how Fontana showed some style to the crowd at the gap jump? Throwing a little whip each time he went over.

No, I've got one because I am not an idiot who thinks paying more for a 29er will suddenly turn me into an Olympic champion. I also do not see many around me tackling rocky sections like that every day....

Talking of walking, how is it that some of these guys were running down the technical bits, surely at this level that would be a piece of cake? I'm sure I would walked it myself, but still at Olympic level the technical skills should be better.

To me the hero of the day goes to Fontana, he rode hard to stay in contention and when your legs are tired after 90 minutes of hard sprinting, nothing is as welcome as a saddle, so when his post snapped, he had to dig even deeper.

S'up. Unbelievably superhuman effort! How do they maintain a pace like that with those climbs? I didn't like the course, thought it was too manicured and man made. Yes open for great viewing, and physically challenging, but that's it. The PMB guys could teach them a thing or two, with a fraction of the budget.

 

Surprised that Killeen broke his ankle, as he probably had more hours on that track than anyone else, but maybe he was forced to take another line...

Well thank goodness you started a 100 threads of what tools, shoes and helmet you should get, the beachfront rides do get technical

 

you were implying that the coarse was More designed for the 29er and that is why I asked why you ride a 26 inch

I agree, it looked very manicured, I must say though, there appeared to be some sections that would have me dropping my guts on my rear tyre.

I was super annoyed with him in the first 4 laps, wondering to myself what the hell is he thinking, but man alive, he really stuck to his guns.
