I want to know if there would be any interest in a regular Thursday night offroad racing series? I know of a venue (JHB area) with a fast, flowing 2km loop, suitable for MTB and CX bikes, and was thinking it would be great to do lap racing.

Format would be something like an hour plus a lap, racing to get underway at 18:00, put together a points system with monthly prizes for those with the most points, prize giving on the last Thursday of the month with a beer and a boerewors roll?

Thoughts opinions and interest will be welcomed.

Hey,

Its a good idea. It seems like a similar concept as the night racing at delta park every Wednesday night, held by RH. Its great fun when I've been, and there are always a fair amount of people.

Where is the venue?

I've been toying with the idea for a while, mainly because I wanted somewhere to ride/race my cross bike (it's a cross between a MTB and Cyclocross). Was thinking of laying out a route at Rietvlei, but then a road was cut through the middle of my planned course... Rode a different route (not at Rietvlei) yesterday and think it could work quite nicely...

Maybe I should join a Delta Park ride one Wednesday to see what it is about.

And yes, was thinking to create 2 'classes', one MTB and one CX.

Most of the trails have the potential to do some damage to skinny wheeled bikes.

Thaba is a bit rough and rocky. I have seen CX bikes on the Spruit and handle the Delta night racing loop without a problem.

my bad...

rietvlei would have been perfect...bloody road running through it now messes everything up!!

Agreed, I haven't been there in a few weeks, how's the road? Are they going to tar it, or will it remain a dirt road?

Back at my old home (PE) they have this every Thursday evening - it is called "60 minutes of Mayhem"...as many of the 3km laps as you can do in 1 hour! It starts at 6pm..

IT IS AWESOME for the fitness!

If it isn't tooooo far to drive i would love to attend! Let me know where you are thinking about having it... maybe we should go have a test run..
