If it gives you an unfair advantage why is the sport not dominated by double amputees then?

Same reason not everyone wins on a 29er ..

Wow, I find it awesome that you pay so much attention to my posts! A fan, you love me, you really love me! :whistling:

Oh, and this month the church got about R200 from me, I've got a 29er to build for Trans Baviaans

You just kept mentioning it on that thread where flymango was raising fund for his friend for the treatment she needed. Oh yes on that thread you also kept saying stop worrying about winning the bike its for a good cause. Now why don't you rather adopt that attitude with Oscar and realise the good he has done just by competing against able bodied competitors and why don't you think of all the people he has touched by achieving he Olympic dream. He wouldn't have only reached out to people with disabilities but normal people living humans.

Spare me. I donated money to flymango's cause even after the bike was won, so feel free to kiss my ass.

As I have said, Olympic athletes train for years to reach that start line. Somewhere, some guy was probably sidelined because of another posterboy with an extra spring in his step.

Here's a challenge: amputate both your legs below the knee- slip on some blades, practice for a while, go run in the olympics.

If you qualify/win: it's the blades.

If you don't: it's all Oscar.

PS keep in mind that can't have your real legs back, so chose wisely, i.e. the "Flesh pill", or the "Carbon pill"?

Keep Blading Oscar!

In my opinion it is all theory. We all have essentially similar bodies but we perform differently due to certain parts or aspects of our body which operate differently to one another. The only real proof would have been had Oscar been able to run with normal legs and then later return with blades and to see if the there was difference or not.

Then again look at Natalie. She was a professional swimmer prior to her accident and her swimming actually improved as she adapted her style of swimming.

Good on Oscar. No it is not the Kumba ya song. He deserved to run there. He worked just as hard as any of the other athletes to be there.

Okay they say that it gives him an advantage.Without a doubt!

Without these things he would not be able to walk never mind competing in the Olympics!

much smaller pool of athletes. the able bodied guys who make it to an olympic final are a the top of an elite percentile of 6billion people. Imagine the issue if someone decided to get an amputation in order to wear the prosthetics and 'go faster'. the east germans would have tried this sort of thing if they were still around.

they have the paralympics for that, Oscar is a wonderful story(when he's not flying around the vaaldam pissed out if his bracket), but sets a really dangerous precedent. The problem is that it's justified with bad science.

Natalie du Toit is a much more remarkable story(she swam the 10km marathon in Beijing), but has less of a pr machine behind her....and undeniably no mechanical advantage.

Well said

You can go google this and you are going to get many different OPINIONS on this

The way some people are carrying on he just had to get to olympics and put those blades on and he is good to go.

You see, as mentioned earlier, he's just a poster boy for a PR machine. The typical Saffa attitude... all of the "keyboard olympians" complaining would rather be disabled and "advantaged" as Oscar obviously is.

There is not one person on this forum that would rather trade their legs for his prosthetics. For me personally Oscar is an inspiration. Having had a hip operation last year made me realise how lucky i am. At least i can ride my bicycle again. There are loads of people out there that are far worse of than me.

Oscar.
