MTB Wheel build in JHB

K just looking for options on sum1 to lace a wheelset together for me.Want a good strong build, so spose JB is the man.Just havent got a reply from them on the build cost & seem far from me.Have the rims & hubz shud be here soon.Just need the build & spokes.

Plz can u guys recommend other places that do a good build @ reasonable price,that wont leave my wheels out of true in 2 weeks .

Hey man, just go with JB/YellowSaddle.

 

1. You won't get ripped off on the price

2. They won't do a *** job

3. They have a spoke making maschjien

4. Built 1000's of wheels

 

Stop mucking around and get JB to do it.

4. Built 1000's of wheels

 

Stop mucking around and get JB to do it.

 

JB does do a great job, and does it quick and efficiently. He can be busy at times too.

Just make sure that if he decides to make a change to any item he has quoted on, that he informs you.

You could get an annoying surprise when the final invoice is sent and a 69c nipple is replaced with a R6.95 one because it is better.

Dont be a cheapie... Nipples are expensive, if you go to teasers you pay far more than R6.95 for a couple of nipples...

 

And in any case, even if the nipples were R7 x 64 = R244 for two wheels then what are you really crying about?

TheV you're building up so many bike for yourself lately I think you should do a course and build wheels yourself!

Or alternatively stick to anything Easton...

If I have hubs & rims does he build with 'his' spokes & nipples?

 

Does he supply everything as well?

He fixed my Xt wheel for free when he saw the price of the spokes as neither of us realised how expensive they were.

 

I cant remember what I paid when he built my crest's but I had them built with Dt revo spokes which did cost a tiny bit more but I remember it wasn't much I am a tight arse and was very happy with what I paid.

 

Then I smacked one of them on a rock and just popped by and he trued the wheel back perfect while I waited at no charge

 

I sourced all my stuff from CRC and I didnt know what length spokes to order I gave Johan the details of the hubs and rims and he sent me the calculations of what spokes to order as well and they were spot on.

 

I have never had a bad experience ever with him or ever felt overcharged.

I'm addicted to building bikes... btw, not only building for myself anymore....

 

Building wheels are like hanging/adjusting doors... I'm not getting into that... not anytime soon in any case...

+1 on JB - he is the only person for wheel builds.

 

If you have any doubts, bash your head against a wheel / wall and rethink.

Had a pair of ZTR Flow 29er's on Hope Pro 2's built by him. Used Sapim double butted spokes and brass nipples. Absolutely bomb proof.

 

EDIT: I see the labour cost per wheel was about R300.
