Thanks

nonsense, i run them on mine, RR and DT Swiss rims with a tubeless conversion, no issues except the odd rock cut.

they seat and fit without issues.

Hope you carry a tube Karma. If it's not the snakeskin you will end up with sidewall cuts.

Had one to be precise - in a year. so maybe i just have good luck?

But yes, you are correct, Snake Skin is the better option.

so is it worth wile taking a chance if I carry a spare tube, the tyres are basically brand new, done 60km, would hate to replace them now with tubeless tyres??? R 1500 as opposed to R 500?

Yes.

Learn to pick your line better and they will last until the tread is worn out.

I have a mate I sometimes ride with who destroys tyres and rims, but whose technical ability is sublime.

I would rather be fitter and pick a better line than just moer through everything and take big jumps.

So ride properly and the tyres will be good

It is a lotto, my bike came with 2 of these co called tubless ready. Would never run this on the back with my weight, 95kg, bit was happy to put on front. you can see where that wheel is going. Not so much the back. Long story short, the 1st one i put on the front was fine, until I started climbing on long climbs. with the side to side flexing of the sidewall it kept going flat through pinholes in the sidewall. If you don't have tons of Stans in it could be an issue. Relay freaked me out on the Trans Karoo, having to pump at each water point.

Put the other tyre on once I got back and all was fine. so try it out.

Apart from that it seems like a cool tyre and sheds mud quite easy. Just has a soft sidewal so you need to run higher pressures that normal, I am running 2bar which seems to be the lowest I can go with my weight. would like to get to about 1.7/8.

The Ralphs don`t last long wear wise so you gonna spend money soon anyway. Get Maxxis Ikon Exo`s and thank me later. They outlast Ralphs 3-1 at a minimum. Mine is going on to a year now with many kms on them. No cuts and no degradation in grip yet.

You can do a tubless conversion no problem. In fact its advisable. The EVO may be thinner but running a "tube setup" will more likely lead to hassles than tubless. If you are going to go tubless do it now and if you cut the tyre, then change to snakeskin.

Like someone posted before...running the non snakeskin version is a moerse gamble. They are thin, cut for nothing but are uber light. Racing Ralph snakeskins are fantastic tyres but don't wear well.

Thanks guys - seems like I will be asking for proper tubeless tyres for my birthday! Will wear the Ralph's out with tubes till then!

dude, go tubeless rather than tubes.. keep a spare tube with you incase you get a sidewall cut.. i have been running racing ralphs (not snakeskin) for ages without tubes and i ride groenkloof a lot, which has a lot of sharp rocks... it will still be more reliable than tubes...
