Hi All

Is there anything different I need to know about fitting a Half Link Chain vs a std chain?

Just asking before I play on the SS tonight.

Chain length can be adjusted by 1/2 a link as opposed to 1 link on a regular chain, you MAY then be able to get the correct chain tension on a single speed without a chaintensioner. This does not always work out though, worth a try. 1/2 link chain is somewhat heavier than normal.

Push a pin almost all the way out, and then back in on the link with correct length, quicklinks and normal pins ( even 8speed) do not work on 1/2 link chain.

This chain has a correct and incorrect orientation/side, so run the chain with the more rounded edges on the gears.

works well, nice and smooth, but picks up a lot of muck off-road.

enjoy!!!

Yes she is rather porky, I will take note of the rounded sides.

On the packaging it notes the chain as being half link and offset .... the offset part I find interesting.

Blurb below from the site:

H , the sproket side is correct but you need to swop the "forwards" and "backwards"

so if you looking at your pic the right side is forward .

So this is the right method then as per my diagram below?

Yes....when you look at the chain from the top, you will see exactly what I mean by "sharp" end..don't know how else to explain it.

My fixie's is on the wrong way but I'm too lazy to swop it, then again I only ride it occasionally ....... what is the 'consequence' of incorrect fitment Ahmed?

Bennie you clown.

Well had mine on backwards and was breaking links.

Hint 1: once you have found te length you want remove the pin on that link. Don't don't don't push the pin all the way out. Just push it out enought that you free up the outside link. You can then slide it down and separate the chain. This will make butting it together much easier. On a new chain it might be stiff so you might have to push the pin until it is just holding in the link.

Hint 2: put it on the right way round;

rounded edges run on the inside, flat side facing up on the top line.

Bigger side of the links running towards the crank on the top line.

Hint 3: degrease chain (the lube it comes with turnings into a nice grinding paste in or dry dusty conditions) lube with a dry lube (I use white lightening blue bottle {clean ride} throughout the year. Not a big fan of wet lubes. They are gunky and the dirt that collects in them both damages the chain and you can't see the cool colour.
