Did I hit a nerve there? Do I smell a bit of a bromance?

I don't know the guy and honestly I don't really care about who he is or what he has achieved. Bottom line is it's still his sponsored opinion...

No nerve. You have your opinion. Until you havent tried it, doesnt count for much though.

If you knew Sauser, you would know that he rides the equipment that he wants to ride. Sure he is sponsored by them, does that mean he hasnt ridden other pedals? Who was not sceptic when he said he didnt own any more 26" bikes? He chooses to ride LOOK because he likes it. What he says came from himself and was not scripted or asked to say. You dont have to believe me. I was only there when he said it...

You can still have an opinion about the pedal, however, dont say things that you know nothing about.

You will have to be a total knob if you break down a sponsored product or a sponsor since they pay you to advertise for them basically....I am sure if he was sponsored by Shimano he would have said something good about them...I ain't saying it is a terrible product, just thinking logical....

You are bang on there.

Sauser, Conrad Stoltz, Burry Stander, Max Knox, Mattys Beukes....and the list goes on....ride LOOK...because they prefer LOOK. When you see any of the top boys...walk over to them and go and ask them.

Like I said, the Look Carbon Quartz is almost 100g lighter than XTRs, for less money. Of course the pros will opt for the lighter product, they are weight weenie gone bonkers. The XTRs have got a better feel when clicking in and out, but only when they are clean, which is only at the start of the ride. The Looks are not bad when clicking in and out, and better when dirty, but the tension can not be set and normal riders might find them a bit tight. But I prefer my super light Looks to my XTRs. I am referring to the current Look Carbon Quartz pedals, their setup was easy for me.

Bit of a pain in the proverbial if you have to shim to adjust clip in tension (?)

Nothing to do with clip-in tension.

One area where the XTR pedal is better is that they are flat and better for avoiding pedal strikes if the bike has a low bb and/or is a dually. And the XTR`s seem indestructible. If the XTR weighed and cost the same as the Look I would opt for the XTR.

How do the LOOK cleats attach to the shoe and what is the purpose of these shims?

I've always used Time ATAC but since I modified my cleat position (+/- 13mm further back than a normal cleat slot goes) i found that my feet now feel to loose in some cases because the shoe surface so far back is not designed for cleats (not as flat as the normal cleat installation area).

I have XT pedals on my MTB with Sidi Dragons for past 2 years been very happy.

I recently got a road bike and fitted the Look carbon blades and a friend gave me a pair of spez s works carbon shoes.

I know its maybe not a MTB on MTB comparison and I dont know if its more the shoes or the pedals but I wish the MTB could feel as comfortable and as good as the road bike does.

The purpose of these shims are to space your cleats in such a way that when you engage your shoes...the studs on your shoes gets in contact with the platform of the pedals. This will result in a better energy transfer, and that your feet are more stable when engaged . When the spacing is wrong...you won't be able to engage...or there will be a rocking sensation/movement side to side on the pedals, that can result on a early/premature disengagement. (and you won't have the benefit for the more stable platform.) You will now also be able to customize the setup as the soles of your shoes wear down.

Had Xtr pedals for years...Now changed to LOOK pedals.

so much better I have changed all my bikes to LOOK.

and no I am not sponsored by them.

LOOK Rd and MTb pedals are better then any other pedals I have used.
