How do they get that funky pattern on the blade?

It's called damascus steel. If I remember correctly it is steel that was heated, carbon added then folded, smacked with a hammer a few times and the process was repeated

Not sure if this has been asked, but can anyone recommend someone for engraving on a blade (In Gauteng)?

Thanks, will appreciate

Just had a look at that Opinel. It is a stainless blade with what they call cow horn handle. The handle looks to me to be resin but it might be the treatment on the horn that makes it look plastic. Price is R1799

It's polished cow horn.

  • 3 weeks later...

I always have a pocket knife in my pockets, usually a small swiss knife, and also keep a skinner in my bakkie, for when I have to PM a dead animal, and also a Leatherman Wave, mostly on my belt, but sometimes in my bakkie.

On Friday I was at an local Agric Show, and I found a chap selling junk, but he also had a small box with what seemed to be pretty good knives, at reasonable prices. i bought this knife, it's branded a Boker, but I only paid R150 for it, seems genuine :w00t: .

I'll mail a pic to Boker, see what they say.

It's a cheap fake :0

Dear Mr. ,

Thank you for the mail.

Unluckily, I have bad news.

The knife you bought is a counterfeit, which means it´s a low quality knife, most likely made in China, with a soft and cheap steel.

The whole thing has nothing to do with our own designs or products, except the fake logo and packaging it shows.

Those counterfeits are a big damage for Boker, in an economical sense as well as in regard of our reputation, because many buyers are not aware that the bought a counterfeit, and are surprised about the poor quality of those knives, and giving us the fault.

You should definitely return it to the seller and get back your money.
