I just have a simple system at the moment that I brought across from the UK. Just a Marantz pm7200 stereo amp maed with Jamo x550 floor standers. It's a do it all system. Movies, music and tv. And the speakers are under powered by te amp.

I'd love to get a simple, snappy system. But i'm so out of touch that i need to read 4years of What Hi Fi back issues to get back up to speed.

A simple analog system is still the best in my opinion. I had to read the manual to operate the remote on the Rotel processor and I'm a developer by trade... Things are not simple anymore.

I own:

Source1: AudioLab8200CD

Source2: Rotel 10 series receiver

Pre-amp: Rotel 10 series

Power-amp: Rotel 10 series

Speakers: B&W Nautilus 805D

Next purchase will be two B&W PVD1 sub-woofers

I have a number of reference CD, virtually all of them classical. Labels such as Chesky and Harmonia. Not sure if you guys are into classical.

Vocals I can recommend will be Marian Faithfull - Vagabond ways, Dido or Sinead O'Connor

Classics like Dire Straits and especially Rumours from Fleetwood Mac is noteworthy.

I find rock/alternative to be more enjoyable in the car than on a proper system - Live is good on the system

Fantastic reference disc to get is from Dali USA and aptly called "The Dali CD volume 1 – 2006"

Really good reference disc to own. A little bit forgiving in the sense that it makes most systems sound amazing but still great to own.

You haven't experienced the true "Hugh Masekela – Stimela" without a high end system gently whispering it into your ears.

Another big favorite of mine is Rebecca Pidgeon. Incredible voice.

Faark me. You can't call this **** the kids (read 94.7) play music. Its noise.

Thanks, will surely check these out!

I have Stimela on a re-mastered and re-produced 45 rpm. pressing.

Stimela itself is 10 minutes of pure gripping stuff.

A mate of mine heard it at my place and bought the CD. you can get it for around 60 bucks.

The quality is not half bad according to him.

Not sure how the quality on the original disc is but on the Dali disc it is really nice. Also worth checking out John Campbell - Down in the hole and Jan Ackerman - Am I losing you. Awesome tracks.

Ill bring you a copy of the disc when I come talk *** at your shop again.

Stockfish is awesome.

On that best audiophile voices Sara K is to be found, what a talent.

Absolutely amazing voice. Stereophile magazine released 3 CDs with cue sheets to help setup audio systems.

Fell in love with her voice sitting in the car getting it ready for IASCA competitions. Many late nights spent listening to her.

Not able to do much listening now, with the little one around. Luckily he still prefers the flashy dials on the washing machine over the Primare. Has been a mission to fire up the valve amps.

Our current setup:

- Yamaha RX-V863

- Yamaha YST-SW300 subwoofer with 12-inch driver

- 6x Acoustic Research AR18 bookshelf speakers.

I tell you something, those AR18s, although they're many years old now, amazing quality and clarity, even when turned up loud.
