sounds like you Capetonians have issues

The battle for the mountain has just begun devil.gif

However, I have not doubt that everyone can be accommodated, just going to take some planning and education. There will always be a few tjops though.

Trail and Tar have a weekly wednesday run set up that seems helluva well supported

Jimmy, at least runners dont damage the lips of the DH trails like XC guys hehe

This is then perhaps the ideal & correct platform to "educate" trail runners i.e. make them aware of the various MTB trails procols...?

Sensitize them in a constructive manner...

The Wednesday evening run is organised by Trail and Tar. Who pay for the 2 car guards that are in the parking lot between 5 and 7.

2 Trail & Tar employees regularly attend build days and are downhillers themselves. So a little communication with them will more than likely resolve the issue for good.

I don't get the ipod thing tho.

On a side note I encountered 2 walkers on the downhill track the other day. It was on dh3 on that s bend where the 2 little jumps over the xc track are so I didn't see them until I was almost on them. Screamed and they scatered. I was gonna stop at ask them to get off the track but the girl had such a nice backside that I just rode on.

See... already a lesson in how to get along :)

I dont think it is a good idea that people start running up and down purpose built mtb trails. What is gonna happen when guys decide to start riding the hiking trails? People are gonna say but you guys run there so why can we run here??

This is gonna end up bad at some point

interesting.....I saw a facebook post from a friend today about running down jonkershoek singletrack for 8km and i thought about this exact thing....Now i dont know what it looks like, but if it is anything like kzn singletrack there are going to be occasions where you come ripping round a corner only to face to bum with a trail runner - what would you do in that situation because they cant even see you!

I am all for runners using mtb trails, but i think they must pick the trails they use wisely, and if they run down trails make sure they choose one where they can be seen from a fair distance

I'm probably not going to be popular for this post.....but..... see the below sign that the IMBA (International Mountain Bike Associasion) has developed.......we are at the bottom of the food chain when it comes to trail sharing :-(

Hi all

My name is Noel and I am a partner in Trail and Tar. I think that the trail runners being referred to could be part of the Trail and Tar Wed evening trail runs, which I organise. If I may take this opportunity to respond to the complaints:

Firstly to appologise if any of the runners have not followed basic trail etiquette, as I understand it, and will be informing all at the start of every run, is that any runner either going up OR down any single track, to give way to cyclists, all we ask is that u give us as much warning as u can by a simple friendly, "rider coming past" I undertake to educate the runners on this, and to the fact that we should stick to the left hand side of all the jeep tracks, and to be aware of cyclists. Agian guys, all we ask is that u give us a heads up, as we Sh**t ourselves when u come flying past, just as u guys do when the cars come screaming past you guys on the road.

I am hoping that we don't get to the point of who can go where, and share this amazing playground with all. So this is a commitment on my part to educate and inform the Trail and Tar Wed runners on how to run trails.

On the up side, every trail runner contributes to the Trail and Tar Car guards on a regular basis, thus keeping things safe for all.

Look forward to sharing the trails with you guys.

It seems horsey people are on top of the chain, must be due to the horses potentially getting a fright and bucking the rider or harming others on the trail.

please explain "our"

I think Jimmy means the dedicated DH trails are MTB specific and that the "our" would be for mountain bikers with the only foot traffic going up or down there belonging to trail builders :)

Ok, I will probably be roasted for this..... whatever!!!

I know us MTB'ers pay to use the trails, volunteer groups build the mtb trails, I also know hikers dont pay, Do trail runners pay, I assume no.

So why should any hiker or trail runner be using the mtb specific trail that mtb'ers have to pay to use. I dont think it is fair!!! I am happy to share the trail, but the access procedure is severely flawed and mtb'er are not allowed to ride on alot of the tracks available on the mountain.

Sorry you feel that way, because thats exactly the way motorists feel about cyclists on the road, and thats just really sad.
