I would like to hang my canoe in the garage with a pulley system using one rope so I can tie the end off on the wall somewhere.

I used to hang my bike using this method by pulling the bike up evenly. For the love of me I simply cannot get the pulley configuration right.

The one end is tied off on a pulley and the other pulley is double. There is also a single pulley for the bars and another for the saddle.

Any logical thinking will be appreciated.

I've had the same issue in the past, but came up with a solution that uses a broom handle. Will need to make a drawing to explain tho (will try a bit later).

Sepia, here's my drawing. The loops that go around the canoe and attach to the broom handle (or suitable length of wood from hardware store) need to be tie-downs. If they're just enclosed loops of rope it just makes life difficult trying to slide the whole system down the length of the boat to get it into place. Tie downs make life much easier. I bought some cheap ones from Sportsmans Warehouse and cut the length down to how I wanted them.

A single rope to the pulley in the roof also makes your life easier - one pull on a solitary rope takes the boat into the rafters.

(And I know why you need this sort of system, my garage setup is the same - I need the boats in the rafters. Wall racks are sometimes not going to work).

would the two rope system also work with a K2 ?

That system Sidewinder posted from CRC is great - very neat and professional - but a weight limit of 50lb. A K2 would be much too heavy.

My pulley system follows the same logic as the CRC system, but maybe you could make a sturdier version for a K2 - thicker rope, larger pulley, thicker beam, etc. You might also need to have 2 people pull the K2 up?

The weight restrictions correspond to the materials, if the op builds his own(which is my understanding) steel pulleys and quality rope will hold.

@Sidewinder:

You star! Exactly what is required. Many thanks indeed. How simple is that and it befuddled me. Thanks

No worries, I was also trying to figure it out for my mtb. Post some pics when you're done building.

The system I have (sash rope, plastic pulleys onto metal plate and screwed into rafters) will easily handle a double - unless you have a boat!

One person will easily lift the double so no worries there. The pulleys help spread the load but all is determined by the fixing point and also the pulleys must not be mickey mouse. Metal pulleys I feel are overkill for the purpose..... Th system works a charm when I hung my bikes and fishing ski - read boat!

Thanks to all.

I use a similar system for my paddle-ski, with old mtb tyres as the hoops.
