Need some advise,

I have been riding with Candy's for more than a year now but my current pedals are a bit banged up so I need new ones.

Have been wondering about the difference between candy and eggbeaters? Would love to try eggbeaters?

Shimano....been riding them for 2 years now and over 5000km, and good for years to come!

Do they use the same cleats?Looks like it should be?

Yes they use the same cleats.

Mrs Patensie has candies on her bike, I have eggbeaters. Eggbeaters shed mud a bit better and easier to clip into, while candies give a bit more of a plaform (stating the obvious). Much of a muchness though.

I have:

Eggbeaters

Candys

Acids

Mallets

All CB pedals using the same cleats. I prefer a bit of platform so I donated the Eggies to the daughter.

I like the CB pedals but you have to realise that they not a fit and forget item like the Shimano SPDs. They like to be regreased every couple of months (5 min job). If you don't then expect to have to service with a rebuild kit probably every year.

Replaced my Candy's with egg beaters and can't tell the difference in terms of just standing on the pedals and trapping. Never had any problems with uncleated pedalling which was my concern.

Go for it.

Ignore nay-sayers - what other pedal can you cleat into no matter the state of your cleats mud-wise? Did B&B descent which had more mud than I care for - no probs, just cleat in and go.

Any comments on look vs cb vs time atac while we are on the subject of light weight mtb pedals?

Shimano's are the tits, but they weigh as much as pamela's DD's.

Been riding eggbeaters since 2004 - no problems. The original set is now on the road bike I use for commuting. I think it was serviced once in 8 years. It doesn't give me a day's hassle.

Greater power output with Candy's,also eggebeaters creat hotspots on your feet.

REMEMBER!! - if you have carbon or composite soled shoes use the CB shoe shield!!! Its around R100 and is worth the investment to protect the sole of your shoes.

Gave up my eggies for Shim XT, feel the differance when I ride, but they are a bit heavy, xtr's are impractical as they require regualr servicing and not worth the price.

Try look Qaurtz or time ATAC

I know a sponsored rider who switched from Eggies to Candy because they tested both out extensively with powermeters and the Candy's power transfer was better.
