i think i did not explain myself correctly

i ride to work and back every day 12 in 12km out . i dont consider that training

then i ride as my coach tells me during the week between 1 and 2 hours a day(different zones) taking off mondays/rest

then saturday and sunday i do between 3 and 4 or five hour rides around van gaalens

Sorry, must have missed that.

Busy looking at this eating academy diet, looks very interesting and definitely goes against anything learnt.

I hope in 6 months time you'll be back here telling us how you have got things right.

Hi dipslick,

I too lost almost 30kgs after changing my diet. Looking at what you said you eat on an average day, your carbs still seem to be high. If you want to lose weight, you'll have to keep you carbs under 100g per day, I would recommend 50 - 80g should be good. I would also suggest that you keep your caloric intake maybe in the 1800 - 2000 kCal region. Having done TONS of research on this, I would probably guess that you are insulin resistant, so controlling your intake of carbs is going to be very important. Rather up your protein, and you must make sure you are consuming good fats too.

The absolute best book I have ever read, which explains everything in huge detail is: The Paleo Solution by Robb Wolf, get it from Amazon. It will give you a true insight into how your body works.

After trying everything (I even went vegetarian for about 6 months, the whole blood group crap), I discovered that my biggest issues were actually wheat/gluten intolerance. As soon as I cut the pasta/bread etc. and sugar, and started consuming meat and fats, my weight started to drop. The Paleo Solution changed my life, and now I happily sit around the 88kg mark. Before this, I too stalled at about 98-100kg for a very long time.

A big help is to watch what you eat more closely. Use an app on your phone to track your caloric intake, I like using Calorie Counter by FatSecret, very good app with lots of SA foods in its database.

This tells me you have become a little reliant on the sugar, the wheat content also feeds the candida, it's a tough one, but a system flush is never easy.

If you read what Peter Attia (eatingacademy.com) has reached after some time is to train the body to use its natural reserves of fat as fuel. I'm not there yet so I fill my Camelbak with pepto-pro (hydrolised protein in a powder form) and mix in enough GI32 to make it taste good. I've done up to 4h30 on this after having a good breakfast of eggs & bacon. I also pack Maxilean protein bars (37g protein, 3g carbs).

It will take time to wean your body off carbs, but for me it's worth it.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but have a look at http://www.myfitnesspal.com/ . There is also a app. Use it to record your meals and exercise and see daily over/under calories to maintain or gain/lose weight. It is also helpful to see how much fat/carbs/protien you're eating.

I was surprised to see how many calories I need, it was much less than I thought!

Try doing more cross training. I come from a triathlon background but over the last year and a half have done more cycling and less running in preparation for Epic as I need to improve my technical skills. I have found I have gained a bit of weight and am struggling to lose it on only cycling. I have now started to add some running sessions in and am dropping the few kilo's I was struggling to on only cycling.

I am def. doing cross training next year, I tore ligaments a few months ago and everyone rates it for weight loss and fitness/strength
