I had my 1st ride on my new 29er this morning! Being one of the biggest big wheel sceptics i am amazed. It is such a forgiving ride, it is silly. Went through tecnical rocky parts where i normalle struggle with 26er. I am much more confident on the downhills and the best part, i am much quicker in the singletrack. Climbing is something to get used to but won't say i climb any slower on the 29er.

I have to add here that i am very glad that i waited this long to convert. I learnt allot of skill on the 26er. I reckon people starting off on a 29er really have a deficit when it comes to technical skill. 26er is def a very good learning school.

I am so pleased with the purchase! Money well spent. Had one little misjudgment with a tree lying in the singletrack. Could not clear it in time and now have to get my calve patched/stiched up as soon as the doc is on duty

I was very stubborn until I rode my friends 29er for the whole I was amazed ... at the moment I am busy building a 29er.

It is well worth it! For people that are really technically gifted the crossover might nog be so amazing. I am fairly technical and the 29er is in a different league when it comes to technical stuff. You might mis the "trailfeedback" you get from the 26er (if you are a real purist) but the quality ride is really noticeable. It is like having fun in a beach buggy and then doing the same route in a limo (just not so boring)

Have you tried the same sections on a 26 er again?

No! It is a route i regularly ride. Probably done it about a 100 times on my 26er and those particular sections were always way more troublesome than this morning.

I'm still in 2 minds about the whole 29r thing. Test rode a Spez Camber 29r this weekend at Groenkloof, it's great that they offer this facility. With the bike being heavier (yes i'm already spoilt) and me sitting very upright due to short stem & wider bars, it's difficult to compare to my properly setup 26r which is light and nimble.

I did take the Epic S-Works 29r for a spin (in the car park - gf rode it in GK) as well which was lighter and nippy in general, rolling carbon wheels with XTR kit, it's hard to fault that bike for not being as nippy as a 26r considering that's what i'd be looking at but to look at a R70+k bike, that's a hard pill to swollow.

Who knows, maybe Santa Karma brings me 2 whistling.gif

What i like about the 29er (maybe the geometry of this bike just suits me better) is that it feels like im sitting "inside" the bike and not "ontop" of the bike like on a 26er. This gives me better controle. It feels like i can really throw the bike into the corners in the singletrack. Absolutely love it!

Hope my above statement makes sense
