Tall cyclist... And not the medium heights most post are about...

Hi All

So I'm relatively tall... When I read posts about tall guys looking for bikes, I wish I had the problems they're worrying about... See the average of those guys are 6'4"... Bike sizing charts go up to 6'4"... So no worries... I am a tad taller than that... 6'11" to be precise... Or 2m 10cm... Currently I ride a 2011 Giant Talon 29er. I have the XL (22.0) frame...

The problem I face is as follows: It's still not big enough. My knees are constantly very bent, and my lower back aches after half an hour in the saddle... Any suggestions from knowledgeable and potentially other "Giants" (Not the bike, the mystical creature) out there?

Thanking you in advance!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA AMEN !! I thought all cyclists were shorties always asking for small and medium frames.

Im 2m and have a 26" xl also 22.0. I suffer like a biatch so i dont even want to know what you feel like.

PM BigJ_WP (think I got his name right) - he is quite the tall guy (taller than me at 1.95m). If your back is getting sore, it may just be the bike setup and not the bike itself. Also, I suffer from back ache from time to time - weak core. "It's not about all the bike" :P Hope you come right.

I clock in at just over 2m. I currently ride a Specialized xc pro XL size. Other than my seatpost being set quite high, and riser bars and steeper stem, I don't have many issues. Ocassionally I do get sore back and sore knees, but not too bad. I suppose those few cm's you have on me must make a huge difference. Also there is that weight penalty, being tall a normal weight for me is way higher than shorter people, huge penalty on climbs!

For me the issue is finding lekker clothing, shoes etc. Finding secondhand bikes is impossible, and buying new always takes a long time for them to order the correct sizes!

One of my training mates has a similar problem. Depending on your budget you can get a frame custom made based on your measurements as he did. Else the Santa Cruz offers a true XXL frame.

I'll take the bike to be set up properly... And hopefully I can get away with an extended seat post, riser bars and a steeper stem...

That 36er looks like a real plan though... Hahahahahaha!!

@Traaidmark: Could agree more... Size 13 shoe and 125kg... At least I can paint ceilings with a lot of ease!!

But good luck.

Please let us know which bike you end up going with.

Have you had an ergofit done? Helps as you can take these measurements with when bicycle shopping.

I think you should start your career as a professional ladder, and leave the cycling to normal people..
