He's not a criminal.

It's a good thing internet forums don't set the punishment or the oke would have had both legs amputated and dragged through the streets and then set on fire.

Technically you might be right, but if you cheat your way to prize money etc... How can that not be criminal?

That is stealing money from somebody else who didn't dope, don't see how its not a crime.

It's IMO exactly the same as a businessman giving a bribe to get a contract. Do something illegal for your own benefit, not?

Shame on him for spending all those hours in the saddle with a guy next to him who's probably closer to him than most guy's own brothers, then going behind his back and sell him out.

I don't buy this for a second. His partner MUST have known. With EPO you don't just pop a pill on the side and wait. Surely KE must have known something was up when DG was spinning at all hours and ducking off. There is no way he couldn't have known.

And why would he have come clean before he was busted?

I'll try... we all make mistakes, and by mistakes I mean not by accident, but by taking the wrong decisions. With your decisions come consequences and normally the severity of the wrong decision dictates the degree of consequence. Having said that, most of us have gotten away with wrong decisions and without punishment. That's part of growing up! If you stop making mistakes, you stop living.

That's what I meant about us being so judgemental. It reminds me of Mathew which said, "You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye."

Andydude, I really dig your viewpoint there. 2 years is more than enough banning for DG. People are driven to do these things by the pressure they are under to succeed, via the sponsors etc. A life ban is pretty harsh, and not called for. He made a mistake. It's not our place to judge him further. At 37 years old it must be really tough at the top. I could easily forgive him for this, just like I forgave Hansie. People make mistakes. We are human.

He should be charged with fraud and made to pay back winning and endorsements. The systems are far to lenient on dopers

First, sporting fraud isn't a crime in SA, and secondly, he is made to pay back winnings gained since the test date.

Didn't you read the article?

That's just winnings.

I am talking about appearance fees and money paid for magazine and new paper photos.

Firstly, you mentioned winnings, secondly, as far as other monies are concerned, the parties involved are perfectly able to pursue him in a civil action for mis-representation or what is allowable in our law, and claim their money back.

What the problem is?

1. Not always, if your training tjom starts epo'ing on the sly and performing better you are not going to be suspcious of him because he is your big tjom and human nature means you will trust him and rather think that he is training harder and or that you need to train harder to match his performance

2. Jaaaa...mistake...wonderfull word that.

IMO taking PED's on purpose cannot be clasified as a mistake, DG knew exactly what he was doing and did not take epo by mistake, it was on purpose.

First offence life bans for people who purposefully dope will be the only realistic deterrent, modern (sic) day humans in general are far to forgiving, in cases like this where fear of a more serious punishment (jail, death, amputation, castration etc...) are not realistic a puny 2 year max (or 4 year for that matter) are a waste of time as a means of deterrent.

Would you also suggest that this rule applies to speed fines? Speeding do cause deaths of innocent people, you know...

DG will be turning 37 in 3 months. So a 2 year ban might just sink him as a professional cyclist anyway.

Ok bad comparison, but isn't Jens 41?

Exactly!

It's like getting gesuip and then driving your car and killing someone, and calling it an accident. ****off!

(PS, hope that Jub Jub rots in jail, fckr!)

Fallacy! Speed does not kill! If that is true everybody going faster than what you can do on horseback should be dead

Yeah, it's driving like a **** and not giving a fig for any other road user that kills.
