1Hill - I dont recall you saying anything about cramping towards the end of last year - when you kicked some serious butt....  remember that you have been away on holiday, and said yourself that your training came to a grinding halt.

Perhaps, before running to the medicine cabinet, get your fitness levels back to where they were and then re-assess?

PS  I attended a running workshop a while ago and an ultra marathon runner asked Specialist in Sports Medicine what he could do to prevent cramping... His reply:  Train harder..LOL

reg - i have a banana smoothi before race and one during the race' date=' that use to work.[/quote']

My dad use to cramp on the bike and his doctor suggested bannanas- worked for him as well. Maybe the smoothi's are diluted and therefore does not contain what a bannana has? Give it a shotWink

I used to cramp as well. Problem: Not taking enough fluids. During the 94.7, no cramps as I was taking about 500ml per hour atleast. I drink Magnezium/Zink pills during the week before the race, then 2 tabs the morning of the race and then 1 tab during the race at about half way. I tried bananas etc, but it will not help if you don't drink enough fluids.

Mini Hijack, how did Z's race go, I saw she was in C group with her new kit.

BTT with me i find i cramp more on flatter and faster races than hilly one's, perhaps it's the intensity and speed.

No her race went well, she was a but unhappy at losing the group at Karee Kloof, but what doesnt kill makes stronger, finished in 2h42

to keep up i was in my 13 most the way.

Ouch!!

I was in and out of 12, 13, 14, 15 and 17 for most of the race. Used 15 for the final sprint, only realising my mistake after crossing over the second timing mat.
