I wanted to accost him, but then images of the West Coast Express fracas played before my eyes (know myself, it was going to end there, so I decided to rather let it go, besides the guy who bumped me was not even aware he did)

That's absurd. Then you deserve to pay 900 Zumalecs for a new part. You could have just told the guy what he did and ask how it would be dealt with.

Anyway, insurance should cover this sort of mishap.

Agreed, as Ianj says most times its just that little hinge, about 100 bucks.

I have replaced at least three on my various pairs, the first time I also got smoked because I didnt know, and the shop replaced the entire arm, it wasn't 900 bucks, I think closer to 300 but it was a few years ago, but I learnt fast.

I recently replaced the nose piece as mine broke and that was 150 bucks.

I crossed that bridge when I had a braai stolen. My broker told me I would lose my no claim bonus if I claimed. I asked him what it was worth. Answer was around R32 a month. I asked how long before I "earned it back? Answer: 1 year and I would be back up to the maximum of 5 years I think it was.

Ended up a no brainer. One year of no claim = R384 A new braai was R1200.

Check and see how much that bonus is worth in Randellas before you spend your own cash.

I always thought the purpose of insurance was to prevent lump sum payouts from your pocket. Kind of defeats the object of having it if you are too scared to use it IMO........

I wear the optical inserts, only work with Evil Eyes. If I change brand, means I have the extra expense of new opticals.

I was going to suggest Ocean Eyewear. Cheap as chips and for that price verging on disposable eyewear.

Not sure if they do optical inserts though. I seen to recall somewhere that they do.....

On my Adidas glasses you can replace just the hinge (clear plastic piece), cost less than R200 for a pair of hinges. Not sure if yours are the same?

IanJ, that is exactly the piece that broke off. Where did you purchase yours?

I will however take nice pic of what looks like and post it tomorrow.

GOG, also same question.

Yeah, its normally that little hinge, 100-150 bucks although you may have some postage involved from Jhb to CT.

I just went to my local optician who was an Adidas agent and they ordered it for me. Once I needed it the next day so my Optician ordered it and I just picked it up at Adidas in JHB.

I would say any Adidas stockist / optician will get it for you, its 2 minutes to change yourself, just pull up the emblem which has a small leg which locates the hinge on the arm and remove the arm, then remove the old hinge piece in the frame with a small long nose pliers and press the new hinge into place, locate the arm over the hinge and line up the locating holes, press the emblem into place and "Bobs your uncle" - Done.

Im a oakley fan , but im losing faith, they dont have any replacement parts for a Jawbone, just tell you to buy a new frame. So what is the use of being able to take the whole thing appart if you cant buy single parts

In my experience it is quicker and cheaper to go to a sunglass shop than an optician. I think opticians tend to have a bigger markup.

Just look for a shop that is an Adidas agent.
