How are the hands and wrists doing? That rigid must have hurt more than a little.....

I am surprised my arms and hands recovered so quickly but I was bleeding through my eyes the last 30km of that race . I know I said earlier "never again" but I am over it now and most probably will try againnext year , can only improve .

well done gav.

I'm sitting at my desk today wishing i was riding it again, wanting to do better. 363 more days, more or less, still....

Thanks! I am not going back................ for now.

I stayed over at Kumbagana with the family. That worked out quite nicely as I could pop in as I rode past, drop off the arm warmers etc. It's also nice to involve them, and get a bit of cheer from the kids. It's the way to do it, make a weekend of it, get the city out the system.

The missus asks me "what took you so long?". Great. I'm only just past halfway!

The next day took a little walk through the bush, struggling to put one weary limb in front of the other in the highveld sun. I found the tyre tracks on the dirt road. It occurred to me how amazingly incomprehensible it seemed the whole idea of riding 75km through the magliesburg, when even a 10 minute walk was a mission!

But what an experience this race was! Hard as hell, but this is what mountain biking is really about. A must do as far as I'm concerned. Can't wait for the next one, or the next one like it.

Well, i did not know what to expect of this ride, and i understand why it's called the monster, it's not the climb, but the whole event.

there is no place to relax. the flats are sandy, or tufted grass. the uphills are rocky and loose, and the concrete strips are steep.

brike my seatrail at km 40. but luckily it was on the flat part of the rail, so i could move the seat forward with the break in the clamp. it held to the end, b ut the altered seating position was murder.

cramped badly three times, had to get off and walk for a 100m got back on and slogged to the end.

hooked up with a rider in choc kit, and we rode the last 15km together. it was great having someone to chat to, and to take my mind off the pain. if you are on the hub, thank you once again for the company.

did just over 5:30 not too disapointing given the circumstances.

using Sani as thrining for this ride is futile.

The story above sounds all too familiar :) If riding a Ghost, that was me ;)

My cramping started as we hit the Breedts road, long haul home but happy to have finished.

That was a proper MTB race, non of the Mickey Mouse stuff others consider MTBing, this from a Roadie :P

Dissappointed tho that when you finished, there wasn't actual post ride drinks, nothing like an ice cold coke to welcome you home.

I'll be back, once my brain has cleared from all the dust
