helmet suggestions for freeride / dirt jumping

looking for something that can protect the back of my head a bit better than my met road helmet while trying "braver" activities on the MTB - have an old skate helmet that just gets way too hot! something like a fox flux seems the way to go? any other suggestions?

The Fox is too bulky for me. Giro make some good options, Xar, Hex, Zen. The Bell Variant also has a slightly deeper profile but not as dramatic as the Fox or Giro's. Also look at the Urge Endur-O-matic or if you really want to spend money POC make a great version of what you are looking for.

As hot as skate helmets are... they have their advntages when it comes to dirt jumping.

 

The very nature of the sport is likely to result on frequent bails. Many of which will probably involve head-to-earth contact.

 

With something like a Xen or Flux (which are designed to crumple/crack to absorb impact, and therefore need to be replaced after moderate bails), this could become quite costly. Dirt jump helmets, hold up a lot better after bails.

 

As for freeride. Because it's often a lot faster than dirt jumping, but still involves airtime, along with gnarly terrain, I would say that a full face is best.

Hi chaps. Have a look at the range of helmets from Nutcase. They are comfy and not as hot as normal skate helmets.

OK, I'll take one Chakra Wisdom Plus in black, or white. Since I lost a Wisdom tooth on Monday, I'll replace it with one of these - and my dentist will approve!!

thanks for the pointers guys - gives me a much better idea of what im after - not so sure about the urge / poc stuff though? reminds of the helmets the trials / speedway guys wear. hahaha.

 

i do like the look of the Kali stuff! also theres a 661 i have been eyeing out... choices choices.
