Yoh! I think I want my next frame to be raw.

Mooi one boet.

Thanx mate, still in 2 minds about spraying her. Not sure how fast the raw frame will corrode.

You could go clear? No primer or colour needed. Just a hardener and some clear.

Was thinking of clear coat, just not sure it will be durable on raw aluminium. Else thinking of natural anodizing maybe

I'm not thinking about any of this practicality. Its those raw oozy rims from bibi and now this frame that got me all hyped about raw. In high school I sprayed my MTB with a blikkie I bought from a hardware store so don't take any advice from me.

On a side note this cannot be ignored

However that car has been hand polished a few times to seal in the effect.(not sure if this is the same one I am thinking about) but yes you can polish raw aluminium

To much rawness..fatal system crash..does not compute...THAT LOOKS HOT

Can polish the alu to a mirror or brushed finish...its the sealing of it that is the difficult part. think I must speak to the master of paint, aka BogusOne about my project..

If you are prepared to re-polish periodically, there is no reason not to just have the bike polished.

In the States, polished Aluminium wheels are very popular, and the wheel manufacturers just have a bunch of Mexicans polishing them by hand.

I polish aluminium often for my Honda CR projects (swingarms etc). To get the factory look I polish the aluminium up to a shine (which does seal it - the molecules are actually re-aligning with polishing), and then I lightly rub the extrusion lines in using WD40 and scotchbrite pads. You can clearcoat after this.

you can also opt for the silver anodising route, or even a colour anodised frame. the pics are of my old HT stripped own and silver anodised. easy to clean and wears very well.

I have a raw Intense 5.5 2006 model. Corrosion is not a problem, it still looks as good as the day I bought it. The aluminium forms an oxidation layer which means it is not shiny.

Just watch out for galvanic corrosion where bolts or washers are in contact with the raw aluminium.
