Gideondv Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Hi hubbers, Does anybody know what is the total ascent for the 80km mtb race ?The website does give you a route profile but no total ascent. Thanks ps I have tried to work it out but not very accurate.
Skubarra Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 My incaccurate cellphone based endomondo workout said 1336m, which means you should add about 25% and the actual climb would have been about 1670m. You'll hate Simola but after 20km's the big climbs are done and afterwards it's fairly easy, was one of the fastest marathons I did last year.

Francois Pienaar Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Ah Simola I hate you Simola is a baby speed bump on this trail. King of the mountiain is some serious climbing but don't be fooled is just keeps coming after that. This is def in the 2000+m ascent range.

I wasn't the fittest, but remember climbing forever. going for my 4th yr running now and doing the 50km. Will look at 80km again nxt yr.
Jean123 Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Update: the info on the website has been updated. If the mistake I think they made (labelling "road race" info instead of "mtb race" info), has been made, the total ascent looks to be between 1300m & 1400m. Have a look on the site...

Are we doing the route in reverse this year? (Not too enthusiastic about that) Route map looks the same as last year though...
