Had a TI course before my first 70.3. I haven't looked back since! Managed to do full IM with no increase in swim training between half and full and finished the distance without any issues. And that was in the great conditions we had at Full in 2012!

I would highly recommend it, but that's my opinion.

just some background. Before the TI course I was tired after the 2nd lap. Did the course and then drills for 3 weeks. Next time I swam I did 40 laps without any hassle. Not saying it is a quick fix.....but sorted out my technique and breathing! Swim with minimal effort. Breathing is also a huge thing to sort out....if you get that done it makes it easier.

Dit was vir my snaaks want dis 'n nasionale event wat altyd groot belangstelling lok.

Ek stem saam. Dit is belaglik duur vir n one day race.

Its easier to learn the correct technique from the beginning instead of trying to do it later. By just swimming with uncorrected technique you risk learning the wrong technique and it becomes much harder to correct (muscle memory can be a b*itch) later.

The best way is to use a reputable coach, but you can also ask someone to film you from front / back and top while swimming and use the various online guides to see what your problem areas are.

Check this website out for some good tips

I was fortunate enough to attend the Swim smooth coaches course at Loughborough in 2010 where I got invaluable input from Paul and Adam. We do swim analysis down here in Cape Town if you come are ever down this way.

Man, I really want to do it but not keen on giving those okes my hard earned moolas again. In 2012 I broke my fibula 4 weeks before the event. All I asked for was for a discount on the next entry, not a refund . What a I got was a big fat zap in my face. They where not interested in my story at all. Sucks that its the only full IM distance race in the country because I might have to just suck it up and enter as much as it burns me.

Ok so I booked accommodation at the Summerstrand Hotel.

There are a few rooms left still should you guys still need accommodation. It looks like it is only 800m away from the transition/start area.

Dave / Seeker, if you get enough hubbers to stay in the area I might be willing to share some swimming tips the evening before the race...........

Hey there Guys if you in the Melkbos, Table View, Milnerton, and surrounding area please pm me your tel. no. I can add you to a group of like minded ironman peeps training. You can invite and join rides and runs when you feel like and it's free:).

It can get lonely out there

I am officially starting my training for IM today. My wife and I have been training for our first marathon for the last 3 months, unfortunately, both of us got sick the week before and could not run the race. At least I feel my running is on par (not speed but endurance).

My main focus is on building endurance on the bike for the next 12 weeks, with lots of hills training to be ready for the 70.3 as well.
