ever year there are people who moan about the masses of swimmers and how it would be safer to have waves. Now the organisors simly try and make it safer for everyone and there are still people who moan. How can the organisors be greedy if they are simply tyring to make it safer. I think it would be nice to have the clock showing your actual time at the finish for photos etc. Maybe they can have 3 clocks at the finish, one for each wave. Then you can just run under the time that is actually yours. Problem solved with a simple solution.

Do not take this as gospel but I seem to remember from some literature that it was in the region of 300m per 60km lap. So this will be about 700m total more...

Just had a look - On my Garmin Connect file it shows 1369m of elevation for the 175.78km Bike for this Years Ironman in PE after elevation corrections.(my 2012 elevation reading was also very simaler on the same course)

So if 2014 is 809 per lap you looking at 1618 in Total.

So only 249m Extra elevation in Total over 180kms, (or if there 88.2 is correct then 176.4km)

Not quite the 700 odd you mentioned above. Shew

Yep Awesome Day/ Awesome Race, already got FOMO im not lining up on the beach for 2014.. just commited to Cape Epic 2014 and I think the 6days receovery from finishing on 30 March will be a bit Tight, Haha. Good Luck

There is a lot of climbing. Some steep climbs. Good luck. I'll be worried if I was an athlete that barely finished it this year, cause that won't cut it next year.

They will most likely only start the finish clock at 7:00 - much like Kona. Yes, some people will get some extra time but if that's what you are counting on, I think you have bigger problems

14%! Is that on the lakeside road? Will be down there in December for a week or so - a recce is definately on the cards...

If it gets to 14% it can only be for 2 seconds - the climbs are really not that bad!

Looking forward to it even more, a three lapper was not filling me with glee, I would much rather go around twice.

A more scenic course is also fantastic, oh wait I spend 180 km looking down at my front wheel anyway, at least the photos might be cool.

Bring this sucker on, I spend so much time on the Cape mountains, those little PE hills will feel like speed bumps come April.

Good to know! was wondering if a 25 on the back was going to cut it...

My my ride shows 280m for 1 lap of 60km. Therefore 840m in total which is very similar to what me Soentoe says.

The climb has increased by 778m.

Guess will have to get an 11-25 cassette. The 23 might be a bit tough.

How is having different waves being greedy - they have had the same number of entries for years?

Because the event use to cater for 1800 entries, there has never been that amount of entries. The half was 2000, its the same argument. More entries equals more money for them. If you happy fighting the crowds then no problem for you.

Take it you haven't entered then?

Pity the guys at Comrades who can take 10 minutes to cross the start line and can't really run for 10km. And those are the guys trying to finish inside the cutoff.

course looks alright, the hill training for 70.3 just gets extended by 2 months

from the Go-Pro video the road looks fairly protected from the elements until you hit the coastal road on the way back.

Start waves should be based on previous IM swim times (last 2yrs only). If you swam 1hr this year it is highly unlikely you will slow down to a 1h30 next yr. If its your first time thrash it out with the rest of the "back-markers" to earn your water wings ! :w00t:

Really nice course.

You won't beat your PB unless you train a whole lot more.

Was nice to have a Special needs bag windows at 60 or 120km. Now will only be at 90km. Pity.

Tougher but lekker-er.

The entries have been set at 2000 for some time and this is the first time they have sold out. They have not increased the number of entries available so once again I asked how it changing the course for safety being greedy?

If they allowed 500 more entries then you would have a case but now they are trying to avoid bottle necks/drafting ... these are two separate things

Sheebeen - is that you?
