Cool list. The inspirational notes from kids is quite cheesy at first site - but actually quite clever. I reckon in those hours a message from my kids would be quite motivating to look forward to...

Frozen sports drink wrapped in foil also seems to be a good call (the wrapped in foil bit that is)...

Many moons ago (1990's) I made a water bottle holders out of an insulating foil wrap for industrial pipes...used to loosely wrap it around a water bottle and then staple it closed on one end and the sides...worked a charm as it kept my frozen drink bottles colder for much longer... but it did look a bit second hand...would not do for the modern day triathlete...

As they are available for the bike and run (start of 2nd lap?), where do these special needs bags normally get left?

In the transition area or closer to the bike / run course?

I believe they are on course just before transition (bike) and just after transition (run) - so can access after 1 lap on the bike and after 1 or 2 laps of the run...

The weather looks shiiite!

What really bothers me is that the days before and after the easterly is also blowing. So it seems we will need a bit of luck for it to change...

Yip, a bit too early to tell though, but yes, looks like we will need some luck for it to change and if not, we will be in for a long and tough one...

I'll actually be relieved if we get crappy conditions because those are the only conditions I've had training down here in Cape Town.

It'll also relieve me of the pressure of making a specific time because I know any planning/targets will have to adjust on the day.

Im with you on that one.. i actually woudnt mind crappy conditions as it will take the pressure off trying to make the specific time I had in mind and just race each section as it comes..

Accuweather forecast is hardly extreme (as at 5 mins ago) 17-19 deg. Wind 14kmh gusting 32. Wind is almost always less in the morning. Sounds almost perfect. But then again, when was a weather forecast 9 days away accurate.

Is it just me or is the weather forecast actually pretty decent, it looks cool with a light wind and a spot of rain in the afternoon. I will would also welcome some tougher conditions, that's what I have trained in and it will probably get me placed higher in the field.

Good conditions = go for PB time

Bad conditions = go for position

Need this race to come already. Every sniffle and niggle and I think the worst. There could be a hurricane for all I care right now. Just want to be on the beach and hear that cannon go off.

I felt amazing on Wednesday.I swam 3k easy, thereafter my legs felt great at the club TT. I ran at about 80% effort, chatted to everyone and generally could not understand why everyone else was suffering so much. I came very close to my PB with minimal effort. I felt ready.

I wake up on Thursday, feeling the opposite. Tired, irritated, legs heavy, itchy nose and throat and high as a kite from all the vitamins and minerals in my body. I am still feeling like that. I think my body has gone into shock due to the reduced training volume of the last week or so.

Now that I am in taper mode the wife thinks that I can go out and socialise. Hell she even wanted to catch a movie tonight, yes in a theatre with more than a hundred people all of whom could be carrying some race ending pathogen.
