A tjoob is literally my last match...I won't ride without one, I like to have a backup plan for a backup plan....a tyre cut, no amount of plugs can help....then its time for ye ol boot and tjoob. But when this is in, you have to nurse it...this is just to get you home / finish and not a permanent fix

A tube also weighs much less than a spare tyre in the camelbak.

It really depends on the length of the ride, whether its a race and who else I am riding with.

a few scenarios:

short ride with friends:

tube

tyre levers (the parktool ones)

hand pump

plugs

tyre boot

A 75km race:

tube

tyre levers

CO2 inflator with 2 x bombs

plugs

patch kit

tyre boot

small bottle of stans

A multi day stage race with a partner

rider 1 carry:

tube

CO2 inflator and 2 bombs

tyre levers

boot

rider 2 carry

tube

hand pump

tyre levers

tyre plugs

small bottle of stans

The thorns here is much worse then a lot of places I have ridden before in S.A, you can carry three spare tubes and a patch kit and it won't last you 10km. But I hear what Rouxtjie is saying, maybe for a very last resort it will make you reach the next checkpoint where the tire can be fixed with some mechanics help.

My question is how do most guys put that tube in without tire levers? Secondly what are most guys carrying with them on their rides?

Well if you dont have a tyre lever there are two ways.

First unseat the tyre all the way round and then with brute force roll it off the rim.

Second and the easiest is to use the lever of your skewer.

Just a question to the guys that carry a small bottle of Stan's

How do you get it into the tyre?

If you unseat it and pour it in can you reseat it with a CO2 bomb?

Interested to learn.

Yep, ever had that hole that is just too big for a folded snollie...glue the ****er in, you can glue gussets in, and all sorts of garbage, the tube is so light, its worth it.

will get some today

ahhh, quite simple actually, the last thing you must do is unseat the tyre, the nipple of the wee little bottle fits perfectly into valve after you removed the core(don't know if stan my man designed it like it...possibly)....so the key here is not to tighten your valve core with pliers(like I used to do), but merely with your fingers so that you can remove with your fingers should the need arise. Shake the wee bottle, and quickly put the bottle's nossel into the valve, if you are quick enough you don't mess a single drop. Also dont overtighten the ring on the outside of the rim too tight, doing it with your fingers alone is more than enough. The reason for this is, if you tighten with pliers you could possibly pinch the rubber on the other side closed and then you won't be able to get sealant in at all, even pumping it becomes a hard job.

What PT

Minute or two and its done

unseat tyre...try and stay clean with all the stan's everywhere now that you have unseated the tyre...seat the tyre again, more stan's pissing out causing more mess at the spot where you broken the seat until it seals the spot. Been there, done that, more PT

unscrew valve, pour stans, screw valve core in....no mess no fuss, quicker
