Jees people.

Do what my wife and I did.

  1. Convince her that white dresses and getting people you hardly know drunk is a waste of time & money
  2. Find a tree
  3. Find a minister
  4. do the deed
  5. go on honeymoon to a destination of her your choice
  6. live happily ever after

I would have had the same problem but I told the missus she isn't getting her wedding until I have been to France...

I was thinking of saying we both do desperate honeymoons, I go to France, she goes wherever she wants and we both have something to chat about when we get back :P

2 years goes quite quick... Well that's how I'm consoling myself... Also gives me a chance to build up a new bike as the want to take something burlier than my Yeti 575 and get my skills up to enjoy to the max.

2 years does actually go rather quick.

Peach, Super_mil, KathF, David D, and myself did the trip in 2012. We took a sabatical last year, and returned this year. The 2 year wait did seem endless at times, but in hindsight, it wnet by quickly. And of course it was worth every minute.

Right now I'm suffering from withdrawals though, so 2 years seems like an eternity away... best I make it 1yr

Hahaha. I'll go to bed early and wake up late the next two years so it goes quicker.

The wait also probably seemed endless for you because you'd been before and knew what you were missing while the others were there bombing hills.

Haha. No bru that won't work.

Also. If I can offer a bit of advice here.

Don't try too hard to "get your skills up". This is a classic mistake made by many people and it usually ends up in a cast of some sorts. You'll have the best time of your life no matter what your skill level.

Don't think you need a specific type of bike to enjoy the trip either. The range of bikes in our crew was astounding. From a 29er stumpy right up to Karl's M9 and everything in between. On the hill we saw scooters, wheelchair buggy's and all manner of bike/rider combo. Everyone having a blast.

You're right. I guess everyone just enjoys it at their own level and not much we can ride here to prepare for that kind of terrain/riding. I suppose I mean I'm keen to at least be at a confidence level that I'm not holding brakes ALL the way down :P

I'm sure the 575 will be fine, I'm just keen on a burlier bike anyway cos it's next on my build list. :)

Mmmmm... So now that I'm out of excuses, I should just look at funding next years trip rather... :) S'cuse me, I need to get back out to my street corner for some extra pennies.

Yup. People who over think it or put pressure on themselves tend to have a shitty time or end up hurting themselves. If you start comparing yourself to people you're always going to come up short. There are so many pinners that base themselves there in the summer. Including a World Champion or 2. I've found the less pressure I put on myself the more fun the trip is. Of course it's not the same for everybody.

There's nothing here that can prepare you for the amount of vert you can get in a day over there. This year I descended 7200m in one day. More is easily doable I reckon.

Go WORK that booti on the corner boy. It's worth it.

So Patch what did you think of Morgins?

The only time I felt a little under gunned this trip was at Morgins.

Morgins was awesome! Our adventurous route to get there tired me out though (Enduro route into Chatel town, then up Super-Chatel lift. Still fun , just lots of pushing), so I didn't do as many runs as I would have liked.

Next time, a few days will be dedicated to Morgins, and I'll use the conventional way of getting there!

Yesterday was my first time back on a bike after the trip.

What I can say is that for me (someone who doesn't adapt well between different bikes), 2 weeks on my DH bike really messed me up.

I got on both my AM and 4X bike yesterday and both felt like 29er XC hardtails with high saddles and 580mm bars.

It's gonna take me a few rides to adjust to regular riding again.

Hahaha! I took the Hornet out for a spin on Sunday, the day after getting back. Almost looped it out a few times because the front comes up so easily in comparison to the Glory.
