Yip and here's the next gen Xbox stable.

If the Xbox Series S wasn't all digital then I would probably consider getting one of those. No way I would spend 12k on a console.

I'll eventually get the S. Perhaps a year or so after launch. Keep an eye on specials and bundles. Who knows. Maybe I can score it over black friday 2021. I still sub to game pass which covers my current xbox and pc titles. I don't intend giving that up. I also heard that the sub would include EA pass games from November at no additional cost. That's fantastic value.

There are things to bear in mind here if opting for the X. Remember baseline performance aims are 4k 60fps. And with variable refresh rate support we're talking 1440p at 120 frames easy. Thats unheard of. If your TV can't push that you're wasting your money. We're at a point now where the line between console and pc are basically the peripherals. I'd go as far to say that if every game on every console had native support for a keyboard and mouse without the expense of input lag. Then the casual pc gaming market would be in serious trouble. For the first time you're looking at consoles that warrant buying a new display or tv to actually benefit from what it has to offer.

The disk drive. Look. I get that its nice to pop in a disk and play. Its even nicer to get some cash back when you're done with it. But remember. Game development these days are moving towards a digital platform all together. I read reports about the new Halo being the only Halo intended for release for the next decade. Meaning that any new content will come in the form of updates and dlc's. I remember having a copy of fifa 18 and the first time I popped it in I had to wait for a 2gb update before I could even play. Then your library tries to update games every other day. Its crazy. New content is being dropped all the time. Bugs are fixed. etc. It really makes me wonder what the point is in having the convenience of an optical disk at all.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna do the same as you, skollie. Though I'm gonna go for the ps5 digital once the pricing has come down a bit. It's between that or a new PC. It's a 6yo AMD FX8320 that I'm running at the moment, which was slow before it got released.

I still think the PS5 is the winner. Especially if its your primary gaming device. Xbox exclusives are just utter *** in comparison. I have my reasons for the xbox. But I'll always be a pc gamer first.

the only thing that no optical means is no game trading, the second hand/ game exchange market is dead for the new console, that and you now basically only have 1 vendor to get your games ( Microsoft or Sony) depending on your console,

I see no reason to upgrade from my XBoneS to the series s or x. But to the PS5? Absolutely. Particularly cos it'll probably cost the same as a 3070 or 3060 when they land. ????

The thing is from there onwards you are looking at R400 a game, on average.

The PC also is able to do more than you can do with a PS.

Also, you could drop slightly in spec and still be able to play most modern games I imagine.

My mark-up percentages were a bit squiff I see but still, R12k for a console is a bit steep especially given the game costs.

Besides the monitor and peripherals. You could build a console killer pc for 10-12k off the shelf easy. And game comfortably at 1080p for the foreseeable future. I mean the new i3 craps all over my 6600k and the Ryzen 3300x is a fantastic alternative that wont break the bank. Then you also have the option of staggered upgrades over time. And, if you have a keen eye and lurk like a parasite on carb. You could score deals on some great parts. A pc will always be a larger initial investment. But long term it always going to be way better value overall.

I came across this article a little while ago:

https://www.gamebyte.com/physical-games-could-be-more-or-less-gone-in-2-years-says-studio-boss/

The thing is I'm not keen to go digital simply for the fact that I like to have physical copies of games on the shelves in our games room - I just think game cases look good, for display purposes. I've always bought physical copies of games, whether it's been for PC over the years, or for the Switch. Hey I might wait and see what Nintendo's next console will be and then stick with Nintendo when it comes to consoles.

i have a wife who doesn't like the clutter so I am keen on this digital era. ^_^

Buying digital is my first choice now. Already got rid of basically all our dvd's and I guess will do the same with the blu-rays while they are still worth something. Planning to just keep a few items for sentimental value

Well our games room is part craft room as my Mrs has her craft table in there, for when she wants to sew or knit something, and she doesn't mind the game cases on display. It's quite a cozy room - so cozy that it has a sleeper couch which I use for console gaming, although the room is kept neat and tidy. We have a cupboard in our lounge that's dedicated to DVD's [emoji51]

Yeh I can understand why some peeps go digital, to get rid of clutter or for whatever other reason, but as for me I'll be sticking to physical for as long as I can [emoji2957]

Unlike you I will be onto the Series X or S faster than a stabbed rat and at some point further down the line (possibly just after I have recovered from the injuries I suffer when the wife works out just how much these things cost) buy the PS5 digital.

I just can't help myself.

Hmmm, those MSRPs aren't really a true reflection of what a landed card would cost. We definitely get screwed, but this is a bit exaggerated.

The distributor prices I've seen on partner cards for the 3080 are around R17k including vat. And from what I've heard the backlog on pre-orders is ridiculous. Either way you slice it. I've never seen a price disparity this huge between msrp and local.

Look to be fair you're always going to pay a premium for any Strix, Aorus and the like over founders. And we will have to wait and see 3rd party benches to warrant whether those performance gains are worth spending on. Prices 'should' also even out once shelves are stocked. But at these prices I doubt many retailers will risk having that much cash tied up in their inventory. It feels like these early prices are indicitive of demand.
