Hi all,

I am keen on getting a 26er GT peace but would like some advice/thought's on the bike. I too would like to know how easy is it to change the tension of the chain and changing teeth?

Does anyone know? It is a vertical drop-out and has two screws on the ebb.

Some cleaver people help lend me your thoughts and knowledge.

If I'm not mistaken you'll move the EBB around to adjust chain tension. This does alter the ground clearance of the crank arms slightly.

Bigger sprocket or chain ring and you'd move the BB back. Smaller sprocket or chainring and you'd need to move it forward to pull the chain.

Shot o its that easy. How much can go wrong with the Bb.

Only hassle with a EBB is they creek like crazy... I believe you can get more expensive (read better made, engineered etc) ones that don't.

As Ryan says, loosen the 2 bolts underneath the EBB and then by using a Shimano crank tool tension the chain via adjusting the bottom bracket.

Not true, Hey Peadar. They are awesome, keep em clean and the dont creak at all. Every couple of rides clean it out and you will have many happy non noisy rides.

(I had more creaks from my XT bb than the EBB)

Nice. My opinion is based on what others have said & what I've heard on others bikes. I do believe if you have the right part (and, no doubt, maintenance) it'll solve the problem. Edited by Ryanpmb

Ha! Still have your bike nerd...it works a dream! Maybe in a few months we can swop out...

Peadar - I can vouch for the GT 29er, its one of my favourite bikes to mess around with, although still getting used to the rigid frame. But the satisfaction of dropping guys on geared bikes on hills is worth it

The 26er...rather look for a 29er if you can, much better. EBB/chain tightening and gear changes can be done in less than 5 minutes, and its a solid bike

Well i wont swap my current bike for ANYTHING but i would swap cash monies for my old bike again...

I feel most okes who complain about EBB's are the maintenance free guys who wont do preventative anything, seriously the EBB is spot on.
