I promised myself that I can get some nice new wheels for my Tallboy LTc if I reach certain personal goals. I have now achieved this and it's time to lay out the moola.

I have looked at a set of Edge wheels. I just don't like the idea of ordering them without knowing how much they will cost.

I weigh about 78 kg and love the technical stuff.

On my list currently is the Enve's and I want to have a look at Roval SL carbon wheels.

Any opinions on the Rovals?

Any other suggestions in that kind of range?

Enve carbon with Chris King hubs and silver spokes - black spokes always look terrible after a couple of months.

You will be in for about R20k

They are gorgeous!

I really wish it was R20k! Indicative pricing is R25k and it will probably be more. Local suppliers can not give pricing until the wheels land in country.

Enve XC 32 spokes on Chris King ISO hubs will weigh about 1550g. (My best estimate from wheelbuilder.com)

Roval SL carbon 1450g, it seems his is basically a DT Swiss hub.

Awesome looking wheels those enves but I thought for that sort of money it was closer to 1200gr for the set

Chris King hubs are not the lightest. With DT Swiss 180's the weight comes below 1400g.

It still don't justify why the Enve wheels will be almost R10k more than Rovals.

Also check out the top of the pop wheels from the Ritchey carbon range , a little more exotic with some proper back up in RSA .

If you spending good money you may as well have the support '

Was that before or after the Rand got the Zuma treatment?

Increasingly I'm building wheels with silver spokes, one of my customers said he preferred that as black spokes with black rims "look like a hole".

However, for Enve I'd go with black CX-Ray laced to a Project321 Lefty hub and Project321 rear with thru axle. Both in red.

I reckon it should be based on what u ride. Enve all good and well but if u are riding multi day stuff consider the stiffness will wear u down. Carbon wheels are super stiff and while that sounds appealing its not all good for bouncing around mountains.....

I would look at DT Swiss Tricon, Mavic SLR's or Easton havens.
