My dear friend "Spark", did you go around and ask every single person if they knew they needed a chip? I thought not. Plenty of people without chips, they stated "If you want your time to reflect" you should wear a chip, but not everyone cares about timing, so entering the race does not guarantee your time displayed, and THAT'S WHY I LIKE THE MANUAL TIMING (bright) SPARK.

I for one didn't know I needed my racetec chip, and I defintely wasn't alone. Lots of guys without chips.

I checked the Racetec website the day before the race, and my entry for Knysna was not recorderd, so I assumed they were not timing this race. Bit disappointed as I did a good time, but no use crying over spilt milk.

The event website, http://www.knysnacycle.co.za/information/, clearly states "NO TRANSPONDER, NO TIMING" under General Information. Knysna Rotary are the owners of the event, therefore your entry would not reflect as an entry on your Racetec profile as they were not the collecting agents.

As further examples, if you enter the K2C or the Two Oceans Marathon (and MANY other events) those too will not reflect on your Racetec profile but you are forewarned they are Racetec timed during entry and on their respective websites. It doesn't pay to assume anything, as you have learnt.

Manual timing belongs in the dark ages, we live in the age of the interweb and information technology. Cycling, like most pursuits, has moved with the times.

I just assumed when they asked for my racetec number that the timing was done by racetec and therefore transferred my timing chip from my road bike to the MTb bike.

I had a bad race. Had a lot of technical crap on the ride but in hind sight we are blessed to do events like that

Really enjoyed the mtb route this year from "start" (gravel road that is,after the pimple, Simola) to the end.

Minor negative-route markings can improve.

Forgot chip though.(Did know I needed it, so my mistake)

Leka "gees" at the water points.

Will be back 2014 if road race is still there.

I think its moronic to have a timing system where only a portion of entrants is timed. Useless to the people who don't get times for obvious reasons, useless for those who get times because their positions are only relative to those who had chips.

Would like a mtb system like SAS where your chip is on your bikeboard and everybody get times.

This was my 3rd, and I would have preferred more single track and trails. Really too much plain gravel roads for my liking. Actualy found the last bit quite enjoyable
