Meezo Posted July 23, 2013 Share Any tips or tools on crown race removal. Last resort seems to be 4lb "hamoer" and chisel! I've wedged a thin flat screwdriver under and push it up slowly... I think i was fortunate enough that the crown race hasn't been to finicky
American Flyers Posted July 23, 2013 Share I find thin spanners so expensive for the opening up the hub or BB30. It cost +-R80 each, so I bought cheap spanners from second hand shop. I used angle grinder to make it thinner and it worked for me. Hairy and Amberdrake

Done that as well but be careful not to overheat, take your time and be patient. A belt sander works better and gives a better looking surface. Also remember that these modified spanners are weaker and will self destruct much easier. Pawn shops are a good source of quality spanners at a low price. Bobbo_SA Posted September 30, 2013 Share Came across this last night, looks like a good idea that could be infinitely customized (Attached to the bike stand, different holes for different tools etc). http://www.instructables.com/id/PVC-Screwdrivers-Holder/ Mongoose!, Tumbleweed, Capricorn and 4 others
SamL1220 Posted October 7, 2013 Share I've bled many a shimano new and old without this tool. Just normal syringes and hoses. But was told this is a nice to have tool. So let's DIY this .... Anyone? Easy to DIY,The shimano funnel has a M5 thread (Metric 5mm) the same as the avid bleed kit connectors and some aquarium pipe conectors. You just need a small oring to cover it and attach to a syringe via pipe (shorter the pipe the better, so the syringe supports its self), use it without the plunger as the mineral oil causes it to swell and then it works the same as the funnel. Now as you use it without the plunger when you unscrew it oil will come out the bottom as you don't have a nice little stopper like shimano made, so use another syringe and remove the oil except a ml or 2 from the top of the syringe before unscrewing removing the mess from the equation. Don't use your avid bleed syringes, rather buy some cheapies from a plastic shop so you have to separate bleed kits and clean your fittings if you must use the avids connectors. Here is the procedure:http://www.epicbleedsolutions.com/blog/how-to-bleed-new-shimano-brakes/ Edited October 7, 2013 by SamL1220 Meezo
Gandalf Posted December 5, 2013 Share Things I made, adapt for own use. I service my Tandems on the basic service stand. I have a spare buzz rack arm-clamp that i am going to try use to make a stand. Not sure how yet, will have a look this weekend. Wheel truing stand I made (this picture is out of the WheelPro manual)..... http://www.wheelpro.co.uk/ I want to build one, but has anyone made one that is maybe compatible with thru axle and also a qr? I have an idea of something (see image), but im not sure how well it will work. Truing stand.bmp

Gandalf Posted December 5, 2013 Share I have downloaded the catalogs for: parktools, bbb and birzman(cannot dl this one its on issuu?) here:http://www.parktool....log_English.pdfhttp://bbbcycling.com/downloads/http://issuu.com/bir.../2013_catalogue Going to look through them for proper ideas. I see there are some sort of adapters for truing stand for the thru axle. I think I saw it in the parktool catalog. Just had a quick look in between work. Some very nice Christmas presents in there

Spoke101 Posted December 6, 2013 Share I'm also in desperate need of truing stand. Let us know what ideas you come up with on the road bike keep the wheel in the bike and use the brake pads. Adust them in closer and closer as you go. For mtb keep the wheels in frame and place cable tie around fork or frame cut it so its just long enough to touch the rim and adjust as necessary. Gandalf Posted December 7, 2013 Share i have made a stand so far by using an already home made bike rack that has been mounted to the wall, i used it to hang up which ever bike is not in use. I made an adapter so that i can clamp the seatpost and work on the bike like with most bike stands, altough it seems to be a bit unstable, but it does the trick, works nice without the wheels. As for the truing stand, I am a bit stumped, I have looked at some of the ones in the above manuals, and i would like to put a bit more effort into it and make a proper one that will work on all wheels. For now i am going to make note of all the materials i have lying around and then try figure something out. Will post some pics of the bike stand later.
