Mackie Posted June 26, 2013 Share A guess the point is that, any DIY job can be done at home, with hard work, some tools and a bit of ingenuity, often the "professional" tools are so over designed that a simple "spoeg en plak" method works best. Nobody Posted June 26, 2013 Share I once used the metal piping on the washing line to remove the bearings from an XTR BB. I wish i had cut a piece off or taken measurements.A sharpened spoke is good for removing the plastic covering on bearings to clean and add grease to the bearings.I use a syringe to reverse bleed my shimano brakes. This syringe came with a small plastic pipe which fits perfectly over the bleed nipple. and then of course using 2 old tubes connected\taped to run a chain through to lock up all my bikes. Think chain is 3 mteres. Edited June 26, 2013 by Nobody
Alouette3 Posted June 26, 2013 Share DIY Chain whip with a couple holes drilled in some flat steel section, and rounded a little for the cassette. Also a syringe, some aquarium pipe and slightly modified irrigation fittings (make sure its only threaded on the one side) and this works a charm for bleeding my Avids. Exactly what I described earlier except that my flat steel is not so wide, I sculpted hand holds and dipped the handle end into Plastidip. Looks as if store bought. Guest Omega Man Posted June 26, 2013 Share Clever. I've got a DIY grease gun made from a Syringe. I also use Syringes to get sealant into my tires. Hairy

Meezo Posted June 26, 2013 Share anyone designed a bearing puller yet?useful if you dont want to take a punch and rubber mallet to a carbon frame... What bearings you wanna remove? The mallet goes to the DIY tool. You shouldn't have to bash them too hard
Bobbo_SA Posted June 26, 2013 Share anyone designed a bearing puller yet?useful if you dont want to take a punch and rubber mallet to a carbon frame... Modified a Rawl bolt that then expands in the inner race allowing it to be pulled out, only useful for larger bearings though - actually have not used it on my bike yet, used to use it to remove the bearings from my RC Model motors (normally deep inside a cast crankcase hence hammering it does not work well) Edit: added image - not mine but same eye-deer Edited June 26, 2013 by Bobbo_SA GreatGusto and Hairy
