I want to buy a matt black Fox Flux, just a bit worried it may make my head over-heat in the summer midday sun?

Had a matt black bell sweep before, can't remember it getting noticeably/overly hot.

Can't imagine with all that styrofoam the interior of any helmet would get hotter depending on the colour but maybe the outside may radiate a noticeable amount of extra heat over say a lighter colored helmet.

Anyone had experiences with black helmets, yay off nay?

I'd me more concerned about the weight of the Flux killing your neck. I had a black camo one, then bought a white one. Thought my neck was getting sore due to incorrect bike set-up, till I changed to a Bell Sweep. No more neck pain.

Lol!!

That's an interesting comment, are they really that heavy?

Or is it just the design that's awkward?

100% I also had a Flux (Actually still have it) it is a very heavy lid, on longer rides you definitely feel it. I now have a Catlike and it is way better on the neck.

My helmet is black, and I've never had heat issues, in comparison to my Fox Flux, which is white.

The Flux is still a great helmet though, just on the heavy side.

The Fox Striker is a good alternative to the Flux. It is way lighter and still offers very good protection.

I checked it out, protection was great, and cool looking, but I did not like the glossy finish, and the weight was the same as my Catlike Shield.

Styrofoam is a good insulator, so there should be hardly any head conduction to your head, however the black may increase the amount of radiation, however I don't think it will be noticeable with the wind.

I haven't looked at the weights, however sometimes the neck pain can be because the visor is too low and you have to bend you head up a lot to see the trail/road which causes the pain and another lid could sort that out. Speculation though.

I have a black Giro Rift, also a great alternative.

No overheating complaints. Have a black Silverback cheapie which is also fine.

Out of interest, the helmets mentioned above are all within 100g of each other give or take, surely this is not enough to cause something like excessive neckpain unless you are riding for 5hrs+?

I have a 661 Recon Stealth helmet, mat black as well. It is incredibly light!!!! If you like the look of the Fox rather go for the 661, it looks similar but is half the weight

Funny enough my Bell sweep gave me a pain in the neck from peering under the peak

It is all to the shape of the helmet

Changed to this and pain gone
