"Hijack"

Solar charger for the Garmin? Where would I be able to get a charger only without the other goodies which come in the pack?

"Hijack off" - just had to try and find out.

ASG - they have a backpack that works fine for most phones and the garmins - Works just fine for multiday races, except you have to leave it in the sun to charge, although it has a battery backup, it's not enough to fully charge a phone and a garmin on it's own.

I lent my one to a mate for J2C this year, and he now owns his own one.... they auction them regularly.

Charging bricks are becoming more and more common... get ones that offer over 10000mAh- so a couple of ipads can be charged with the thing before it needs to be recharged... You could eliminate the charging station completely and leave the brick in your bag. Just google portable charger

EDIT: Showtime beat me to it. But that is a very small one at only 2000mAh

Self-Navigation

The Garmin Edge 800 or Edge 810 would be a great option for the Joberg 2 C.

- With regards to Battery Life - Edge 800 15hrs & Edge 810 - 17hrs - So +/- 3 - 4 days.

- If you are worried about the battery running flat, try the External Battery Pack.

- Get a Garmin Silicone case to make your GPS slightly different from the rest.

Just let us know if you need any assistance with the Garmin Edge 800 or Edge 810.

Those colored silicone cases looks sweet!

Edge is great, but for navigation a proper outdoor GPS is definately better. On Tour de Tuli, I used my edge on the first day and gave up, then started using the Etrex 30 that we used during the route planning, and found it far easier to navigate with. They are also half the price of an edge, and work with HR and cadence sensors, and use AA batteries. I almost never use my edge on the MTB anymore, far happier with the cheaper etrex

Just bought an edge 810 with a power monkey.

Which powermonkey did you get? And what was the price?

Now the trick is you need to finish fast enough so that you have enough afternoon sunlight to do the charge :whistling:

The solar cell will be clipped to my camelbak, it charges that grey dildo shaped thingy which is actually an internal battery whilst i ride.

Apparently it has enough power to charge a smartphone twice, so i am hoping it will charge a phone and a garmin. overnight while i lie in my tent sobbing like a little girl.
