COLD WEATHER PLAN

Looking at the chilly temps expected each morning, we're going to take a leaf from the book of some Comrades runners... Buy inexpensive sweatshirts/fleeces, wear them for the time between handing in our boxes and the start gun and then leave them at the start so they can be used by the community this winter.

We'll actually try to ask the Sani office to have a collection point at each start, if enough people like the idea, I'm sure S2C would do it.

It's a complete win-win. You stay warm without having to lug loads of gear on the ride and the community gets some much needed cold weather gear. Blankets would work too, or kit that's sitting unused in your cupboards.

Please like or reply if you like the idea so I can feedback to S2C.

Nice idea - I would however prefer to wear mine for the 1st hour or so till it warms up - then toss it

But these have to be "decent" quality and very affordable ... two things that not very often go together ...

Ysterman, I'm talking MrP, Jet, Ackermans, even PnP type stuff. All decent, if not quite North Face or Columbia... :)

(especially when you currently have nothing). No reason not to give out en route which is what some guys do at Comrades when there's a PMB start.

V12man, I hear you but:

a) That's not really the point, it's a way to help some others too

b) The ol' bin bag is not exactly warm enough to keep you toastie for an hour at 5 degrees.

Off to MrP this afternoon. :)

I normally bring a couple of bags of clothes for the collection at registration... mostly as much as I can get out of my family and staff members - up till the limit of what we can transport - which is what the organisers have historically done - but having a collection point for jackets etc is a good idea, and not expecting them back is an even better idea, so I am supportive of your efforts completely.

Strange they never sent a reminder out this year. I think it is so worthwhile.

Must say, being a 'firsty' I was expecting a little more chatter/hype from the organizers in the lead-up. You get more info at the Swazi Frontier.

I like the 'give' idea, but i also like to ride an hour or so without freezing. I heard at the Epic this year they had a 'dump' somewhere enroute, but you get your expensive jackets back! Marketing gap?

Yup - first waterpoint had a kit drop - run by Miele - the guys who did kit washing on the Epic.

Follow them on twitter and check out Facebook. Ive also asked for more comms.

@farmer_glen @sani2c_scoop hey Farmer, the riders are dying for some comms. Hearing a lot of ppl saying the "hype" machine is missing.

Sorry first Sani2C and not sure if this has been covered in this thread! Do you have to take a spare tyre and spare chain. Are there not bike mechanics at the race villages that can sell you these spares? I can understand if you are going to carry it with you, but if it is going to end up in your box and only be available at the end of the day, you might as well not lug it around?

Yep, it's all been very quiet this year. Maybe just too busy with J2C????

That is really a fantastic idea!

I would support it wholeheartedly and I think many others if it was made widely known.
