"Off the pace" performances of some TDF "stars"

Am I the only one thinking that, after many years of these riders being up at the Yellow end of the TDF, that this year these TDF hopefuls are finding themselves t the middle/back of the pack because they are now riding clean:

Gesink

Evans

Schleck

Contador.........not the man he once was

There are many more.

Do you reckon it's because they are now just average riders because they are now riding clean? If not, what do you reckon the reason is?

I'm in two minds about it but I reckon it could be the first reason.

Then that makes Froomie super-human.

Ps I do believe Froomie is riding clean.

I'm not saying Evans doped but he is a fraction of the man he was in passed years....

I do realize he is getting old but eleven the sprinters are kicking his ass on the large climbs.

He didn't do much in the Vuelta either........

Evans' performance remains a mystery.

Most have had their hay day, bit sad to see given all the expectations, like Cadel in the groupetto. I don't think it really has to do with being clean, other factors like age mostly. Although look at Jens at 41!

Yup, it is sad to see the boys that were shining for so long, now looking a bit dull....

but on the flip side, there have been glimmers of some shine from new "stars" such as Quintana, Mollema, Van Garderen, Talansky and many others ...

Nice to see

We also have no idea re team tactics - could come into play were there's an older 'experienced' rider and a younger up-and-coming rider in the same team as in Team BMC.

I think we're naive if we believe these guys are not doping in some way or another...

Schleck

I actually think Andy is having a good tour if you look at his performance over the last 18 months.

I just think the younger guys are training better so they are winning the races.

Quintana is a machine

Don't know if it is just my imagination but the intensity of this tour just seems to be higher than I can remember any stage race I have watched recently.

I am not complaining! We are being spoiled to a showcase that pushes the limits of human ability..............and I love it!

Yeah, but the Mayan priest also breathes through his ears and that is unfair

Cadel looks burnt out to me. Expecting him to retire soon. It hasnt been a week that was friendly to Sagan - hope he can at least push the pure sprinters tmrw. He sowed up the Green so early he might be getting bored by just finishing each day.

Yeah - there was much hype about the huge battle expected between Cav and Sagan for the Green Jersey and at the end of the day Sagan walked it.

Yes I know Cav had a big get off in the opening stages but so too did Mr Sagan.
