The 8th edition of the Bestmed Campus2Campus SuperClassic takes place on 22 September and is hosted from the Pothefstroom Military base out and back to Ventersdorp.

Licensed riders, and open/seeded fun riders who feel up to the challenge, will cover 95km while a more manageable distance of 35km will also be on offer.

The 95km event is the perfect training ride for riders taking aim at the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge.

The route for the event consists of lots of flats and mild, rolling undulations but it's essentially very quick and a nice ride before the Cycle Challenge.

After the turn-around point, the final 47km are especially quick and the predominant winds predict a tailwind all the way to the finish. The road surface throughout is good.

The Bestmed Campus2Campus every year remembers a great rider and all-round nice guy. Ertjies Bezuidenhout, who won the King of the Mountains title in the Rapport Tour a magical seven times suffered a stroke at the age of 56 after completing the Carnival City Macsteel Classic in February.

Ertjies was the patron of the Campus2Campus and tragically passed way last year after suffering a stroke. Ertjies studied at North West University's Potchefstroom Campus where he earned his degree and where he also raced and earned Springbok colours.

Now in its 8th year of staging, the Campus2Campus traditionally started and finished at the NWU Campus in Vanderbijlpark. The organisers felt it was fitting last year to change and showcase the Potchefstroom Campus, alma mater of Ertjies Bezuidenhout.

The 95km will challenge the best of South Africa's professionals and a worthy winner will emerge in North West's National Classic.

Waterpoints

There will be four waterpoints on the route at 30km, 60, 70km and 80km.

Venue

The Military base, which is situated on the outskirts of Potch on the Ventersdorp Road, is the perfect venue to host the expected 1600 riders with ample parking. Lots of eats and drinks will also be on sale on the day.

Registration

Friday 20 September: Cycle Lab Fourways; 10:00 - 16:00

Saturday 21 September: Dingo's Cycles, Fanie du Toit Stadium, Potchefstroom University: 10:00 - 14:00

I'll definitely be doing this race!! My dad and Ertjies were very good friends and cycled together very often for many years. Sadly my dad also passed away last year November and doing the Ertjies race will be in memory of my dad as well and the friendship that they shared.

  • 1 month later...

Well, it's in my back yard, so it'd be rude not to... I'll be taking the 29er for some speed work and to iron out the bumps left in the road after sanral "fixed" it...

Do you think it will be worth my while to drive through from Joburg?

Or would the Jakaranda Spring Tough race north of Pretoria be better?

Same here - not sure. Jacaranda closer and probably tougher. Decisions decisions.....

I picked up an entry form at Race for Victory yesterday. No doubt the elites will go to pick up the big prize purse on offer but with the early morning trek to Potch and the R230 entry fee and a somewhat boring out-and-back route, we might just go for Meals on wheels (R130) in Heidelberg.
