i have done 2 sani's and both have been special....although i am getting a bit tired of it now...3 will be the limit. I think it is definitely something to do. Its also in my back yard ....not sure I would drive from joburg to do it. Granted it has some negatives, but on the whole its a great 3 days.

Listen to word...lots of entries come up in the last few weeks...so train like you doing it...

My suggestion is train for the Sani as though you are doing it. Put in your leave and bide your team. This year I saw at least 3 or 4 teams trying to get their money back in the last 2 weeks before Sani

Exactly; quite a few will go for sale due to injuries, sickness, commitments etc . Just train for it and then start monitoring the hub in the weeks building up. ;) U will almost certainly get one

Also I believe the entries are opening up to the public this next Monday, on the site it says only adventure is sold out so maybe still space in trail and race... give it go

When I 1st got into mountain biking, Sani2c was that race I had heard all about and simply HAD to do. With the entry process being a lot more difficult back then, (there was only 1 race, not 3, and you couldn't sub a whole team, just 1 person), I just never got around to doing it. Did 3 Towers last year, and The Knysna 300 this year, and was asked to replace my Epic partner the day before this years Sani2c Race when he got ill and couldn't ride it with his brother.

To be honest, I found Sani to be quite a disappointment. I had also heard the campfire stories about it's awesomeness. It was NOWHERE NEAR as good as 3 Towers. And if u from JHB and not flush with Randelas, Sani is relatively expensive. To your entry, add the trip there, possibly having your car shuttled from Underburg to Scottburgh and fuel cost of that, accom before day one and after day 3, then the trip back, it's a fair chunk of change.

3 Towers is great value. Trails are far superior to Sani (which they may as well just tar and make part of the tour of Mzanzi) and it's half the distance from JHB. Do it NOW before it's cost goes up more.

Go for 3 Towers , Sani is like the army .

You will stand in line for food , for the toilet , to brush you teeth, to take a shower, to wash your bike and likely eat your dinner on the floor because there aren't ever enough chairs at supper time .

It's bang on like the army. Plenty of open manly nakedness while you shower with 20 other okes.

I did the Race and by the time we got to the over night stops the porta-loo's were smelling ripe. As Clint says, you stand in Q's for everything, and get to dinner late or even on time and odds are you'll stand and eat.

The numbers at 3 Towers are far less. There are 'normal' flushing toilets and showers.

I guess you need to do it once though - it is easy for us who have done it a couple of times to say don't do... But I must agree from when I first did it in 2008 to this year it has changed and not always in a good way. Having stuff stolen from your car in the shuttle service is not a great feeling. Going down into the Umko on Day 2 in early morning mist is still breathtaking and something everyone should experience if they can! Keep trying KingL for an entry but why not do 3 Towers in the meantime?
