Ford BDA mlotor. Now that brings back memories.

Had one fitted to my 70's vintage Escort Panelvan (the "dogbone" version) It was stroked to 1780cc by none other than the Maestro Basil Green, 4x40mm Side draught Dellorto carbs, 4 speed Lotus gearbox and 302 Corsair diff.

Man, did that thing rev!! Ran out of steam at about 160km/h due to the short gearing, but nothing, I mean nothing kept up to 160km/h. Dropped many a V8 Capri Perana, Cortina Big Six, XR6, just name them.

But alas, someone else decided they needed it more than I did, and it was liberated from our driveway one night, never to be seen again.

That's a shame Man, those mk1 panel vans are like hens teeth.

If anyone is interested I have 2 sets of fully furbed and serviced Webber 45s with various jets and stainless trumpets as well as some sexy gold minilite replicas for sale. There may be some Pipercross air filters too, I just need to check what's in the box. I'll post pics this evening when I get home.

That would be awesome... If I go carb (which I may, as I love carb fed motors) then I need some Weber magic!!!

Any chance of a price?

Do it... carbs are great... although... throttle bodies are cool too!

Differnce is that carbs I can tjoon myself. And no need for fancy fuel pumps or surge tanks.

ITO carb - which motor?

Okay. Decision made. Maybe. Carb also means FAR less electronics. No engine management software, no gargantuan wiring looms, no faff and simplicity at its best. It can be done with pretty much any of the motors I'm considering, even the SR20DE (which would be AWESOME with some 45DCOE's on there!) and it would mean a far simpler install.

Only electronic devices would be the dizzy, ignition wiring and a few bits n bobs like indicators and lights etc. Also don't need any of the fancy lambda probes and flow meters that an engine management system may need. It's also far cheaper to set up and maintain, even though it's more hands on.

Feckit. That's it. I'm on carb, baby!!!

One thing that I prefer with carbs is the simplicity. It's a simple mechanical arrangement, which I love. And if something goes wrong with it, it won't be a mission to find. You have, like, 3 or 4 things to check.

High power Carb motor still needs a surge tank, you will dry up those bowls in seconds. Swirl pot will help but HPFP will probably still be needed.

Imagine... 4 singing carbs! Best!

True, but I'm not going to be wringing it just yet. Still, putting a surge tank in from the get-go won't hurt

Feck. Balancing 4 mikuni carbs would be an exercise in itself!!!

You won't be sorry by going the SR20DE route. Reliable and easy to obtain.

Heard of a few okes here in the Cape running the DE's with 45 Webers with trumpets. Decent power and NM output.

In a chassis weighing as little as the Seven does, performance will be good.
