It's not cheap for the genaral lee kit, plus you need a wolftooth blade. But still a lot less than XX1 or XO1. 'Cept there's no 42 at the back.

Why do you you need a Wolf Components chain ring? A guide will work just fine.

You don't have the 42 but with the right chainring, you can get close, ratio wise...

- SRAM XX: 11-12-14-16-18-21-24-28-32-36

- SRAM XX1: 10-12-14-16-18-21-24-28-32-36-42

- SRAM 1070 with General Lee adapter: 11-12-14-16-18-21-25-29-34-40

If I were to go the 1x up front setup, it'll be on a light weight xc racing hardtail, so I don't want the 'clutter' of a guide. A clean, simple look is what I'm after.

What does a decent guide go for as a matter of interest...? A top quality one.

Decent Chainguide?

FRM Full Carbon with Ti bolts and available in 3 different options - R995.

So then going for a Wolf ring actually makes better economic sense.

only if you already have a clutch rear derailleur, no need for that if you have a chain guide up front

Yes.

FRM single blade - R495 + Chain guide - R995 = R1490

Wolf Chainring - R895. + clutch type rear derailleur

But obviously cheaper to then stock different size blades from FRM!
