cars should just have their headlamps on full time like a motorcycle.....

Yep, I run mine that way. One needs automatic lights (or automatic switch-off like mine) to make this practical, unfortunately.

I think cars without automatic lights is the least of the problems on our roads. There are so many unroadworthy vehicles driving around.

In the US I think all newer cars run with lights on permenantly. There is no way to turn them off.

I drive with my FRONT fog lights on during the day for visibility, headlights turn on automatically when it gets darker.

What does irritate me is when you have the idiots driving with their rear foglights on in the dark for nothing, I then turn my brights on and blind them the same as their blind me

Not legal dude...... for any fog lamps....... both annoying and dangerous, IMHO....... NRTA Regulation 163 (6) No person shall operate on a public road, a motor vehicle while any fog lamp fitted to such vehicle is lit, except in conditions of poor visibility caused by snow, fog, mist, dust or smoke.

LED lights on the new Golf GTi's and Audi's are far brighter than the little round ones on the previous generation. Why they even call them fog lamps is a mystery to me because they help buggerall in fog, mist or rain but for visibility to other road users, yes.

Thank you! Wanted to post this as well. Nothing that irritates me more than people driving with their fog lights on. Most people's fog lights dont get adjusted correctly either thus they shine directly into oncoming driver's eyes.

I have fitted two nice BIG spotlights to my bakkie. I shall now fight light with more light and then you can feel how I feel. I find that people using their fog lights are more of an hazard to me than people with low visibility lights because fog lights blind me to a point where I have to squint or look away totally.

I hate those fogging lights!

Correct, the dim beam is permanently on, been like that for a while now, at least three / four years. On a car I hired in March this year the seat belt is also automatically brought forward on a rail as well as soon as the ignition is switched on, almost impossible to ignore it then.

its simple:

Park lights are for parked

Fog lights are for fog

Driving lights are for driving

Driving lights in day time are more visible than fog lights ... but then they don't give that "look at me, I'm important" status!!

First we have to teach the population to order indicator lamps with their cars and not skimp on them to save R0.50 on the purchase price

First we have to teach the population what that little stick on the side of the steering coloumn is for and that they dont save petrol by not using it...
