Just got my first pair of five tens.

I must admit I was sceptical before I tried them.

I luckily found a pair on sale so was easier to justify the purchase.

They are seriously as good as everyone says!!!

Make a big difference.

Sticky and comfy.

And mine aren't even the hardcore biking shoes.

Here are the ones I got:

Case and point, this weekend:

"I decided I really need flats so I have a look through my really limited clothes bag and only have these really thin black Vans I use for a night on the town. Tried to do a run coming down in them and they were awful so stopped half way down the course and I was literally calling people out of the crowd checking their foot sizes! Found some dude with the same size feet and some Five Tens on willing to swap shoes with me! Stoked. Gotta go find him now and give them back! Gee Atherton - Atherton Racing"

Me too, want some but hopefully not at R1500 + ship

Found them at City Rock in Cape Town.

R820 - they were clearing stock - so only 2 pairs of this style were left. (one I have now and the other was a size 6)

They did have some Minnaars but they're SPD and in big sizes.

There were some other styles/types (not technically biking shoes but still have the stealth rubber sole) but can't remember what they were - sorry.

Maybe give them a call - they're very helpful.

I've always wonder what "5.10" means. I found this "The name Five Ten refers to the Yosemite Decimal System, a rating scale used to determine the technical difficulty of a climbing route." http://es.pinkbike.org/240/sprt/i/icon_smile.gif

is five ten the hardest and the most difficult?

Its not. But its still freaking hard

Yes it is almost the hardest :

Class 1: you fall, you're stupid.

Class 2: you fall, you break your arm.

Class 3: you fall, you break your leg.

Class 4: you fall, you are almost dead (i.e., you can't breath and move your arms, legs, and head).

Class 5: you fall, you are dead.

Class five comes in 10 (or 13 subdivisions, but 12 and 13 are quite impossible) :

5.10 No hand- or footholds. The choices are to pretend a hold is there, pray a lot, or go home

I would guess that back when FiveTen was founded a 5.10 route was probably pretty difficult, however as the sport has progressed there are now various 5.14's and some 5.15's i believe.

So I've just finished my 2nd ride on the new Impact VXi's, and I can honestly say that they're the best Five Tens I've had, to date.

Comfy. Less bulky and lighter than the regular Impacts. Slightly stiffer soles than the Freerider.

And of course... they stick to the pedals like cat-pooh to a blanket.

Hi guys

I have my Freeriders for about 4 months now, gave them wash and have picked some delamination / bubbling on the tongue. Anybody else have similar issues? A slight scratch will tear the "leather" material next.

I posted feedback on the 5.10 site, still awaiting a response.

Would this qualify for a warranty replacement?

I bought them from City Rock.

Hi

Anyone use the Freerider and the Danny Macakill shoe?

How do they compare to the freerider vxi?

Peach uses the Danny MacAskill. I have used the Baron (basically the same thing, They're both variations of what used to be called the "Freerider Pro", except the MacAskill uses the Phantom version of the Stealth S1 rubber (fancy word for non-marking)

I have also got a pair of of the Freerider VXi Elements (the weather resistant version of the Freerider VXi's. They also use the Mi6 rubber as opposed to the regular Stealth S1, found on the majority of Five Ten riding shoes. Mi6 is tackier than S1).

As a comparison I would say I enjoyed both the Baron and the VXi Elements equally.

Grip: If you're used to Freerider VXi's then the regular Freerider Variations may seem foreign, due to the presence of grip on the ball of the foot. This goes the other way too if one is used to regular Freeriders, and they try VXi's.

Comfort wise: I found the Barons to fit a little more snug (which I like).

Stiffness: I would say the VXi's have a slightly stiffer sole. But hardly noticable.

Weight: I'm not sure on the actual weight, but I'd say the VXi's feel lighter.

Hope that helps!
