Lost BMW key in the Cradle this morning - R500 reward

Recommended Posts

Hey folks,

I somehow dropped my car key in the Cradle this morning.

A black BMW key with a miniature Ceepo frame key ring.

My eyes are still watering from the last time I needed to replace one of these, so if you picked it up, or know of someone who did, I'll happily put up a R500 reward.

You can Email me Dawie.olivier@standardbank.co.za or PM me or call/SMS/Whatsapp me on 0836515631 (phone might take a while, it's in my freaking locked car)

:-) yeah, all a bit inconvenient...

Comedy gets better when, after having chased my wife around to bring me the spare, A. The little metal skeleton key is missing and B. the key battery is flat. (Came out of a sealed plastic packet.)

...and then BMW were nice enough to tell me that they can't change the battery because it charges itself when it is in the ignition...

And they do run flat if you don't periodically use the spare.

Uhm, ja I'm sure that sounded like a great idea in a lab

Yah, thats really not good, I dropped my Audi key into the pool once and it cost me 4 k for a replacement, and some of the codes had to be reset at Audi later as well, was a real headache.

Later, I found a locksmith down near my holiday house in the Vaal who does generic keys for BMW, AUDI etc, he re codes them on site and I think it was about 1.5 k - he says they work fine, I dont know but its a significant difference in price, however I am sure there are others around, just call around to some of the better locksmiths if you want to go that route, - but obviously just remember if the car is under any maintenance plan or something rather stick with the BMW originals or it may become a warranty issue.

Hope you find it.

Sorry for the hijack, but would it be possible to give that locksmith's name please? I have a colleague who has lost his Chev Lumina's key and the dealer are also charging an arm and a leg for a replacement.

Craighall Locksmiths do this as well. Quoted me a third of the dealers price for a coded key and better service.

Yah, these electronic keys are helluva expensive, plus mine had to be coded at the dealer, even though the car was still under maintenance plan the re coding of the key and the computer was for my account. :(
