He broke his leg, he raced, he did better than most anticipated. No theory.

 

My Father and Uncles on many occasions cut their own casts off to race. Its can be done. Dave even had a finger removed so he could race sooner as to save it would have taken much longer.

no, he didn't. He faked his injury, the doc came up with some bunk diagnosis under instruction from Dorna and he then missed a round to "get better" and to gain more fans after he staged a fantastic recovery...

 

So did your dad and uncles... it's all part of the theatre. EVERYONE knows people can't come back from those sorts of things and race with broken / detached things...

 

Except Lorenzo.

Unfortunately, Old man and his brothers, used up all the talent genes from the gene pool before we could take a swim. Gary got the most of those genes.
