What is/was your opinion on Stoner wrt natural talent?

Stoner had natural talent,in fact they all do. It's just in varying degrees . But guile and race craft is learnt.

Ja he needs to grow up and stop having a win it or bin it attitude ...

I think he also has the talent to become a great, the next Doohan as such.

BUT he lacked mental strength in my opinion. You saw this with moods and how it affected his performance, you saw it with his home relationship, and also his lack of drive to continue, retiring at his age.... He HAS the talent but not the hunger I think.

well said the drive & hunger is imperative. That's Rossi's strength .

Yup something I think Stoner did not learn, or maybe did not care about. But man, he had natural talent ... apparently he climbed on the LCR Honda for the 1st time, and was right away almost on par with the other guys who had ridden the bike for a year

Ja, the difference is Doohan did not take crap  ... he was a hard man, almost losing his leg and riding soon after the op. Remember seeing him crash, crawl back to his bike, pull over his leg with his hands and ride off.

I really enjoyed watching Freddie Spencer race! Was he not the last rider to win both 250 and 500cc class Championships in the same year?

Whatever the shenanigans happening in the motogp world currently I doubt there has ever been as much commentary around riders, rules and general moto banter in the history of the sport and they say there's no such thing as bad publicity! has this thread EVER moved as fast? (And no one is fighting...!)

I remember as a lighty that my old man and his friends would get into punch ups around the post short circuit braai's about Rainey vs Schwantz.

Biggest natural talent in my opinion is Bayliss... He was like 23 the first time he rode a bike, ever. Gets on wins... Won in Motogp and SBK.

This must have been one of the biggest passes ever. I dont think he was in control, but he made it stick, like he forgot to brake at first.

There was also a race in Germany I think once where him and Haga were going at it, at one point they were passing either side of backmarkers in the same corner...

Retires.

Does the launch of the 1098 road bike, sets a lap at the launch, that would have put him on the front row of the World SuperStock race, in ROAD TRIM!!

But most importantly he seems like the guy I could get drunk with.
