1st climb was rideable.. I was in B batch marathon...but it took a lot out of me..Cramps at 40km....Not nice...Track not to bad..Hate the concrete climb at the end...Got a little lost at about 30km mark...I was not the only one....anyone else got lost

I got lost at about 42km, came down a steep decent, turned left, joined up with the half and seven km later I was at the finish, very disappointed in my self, not sure where I missed the boards.

The splits were marked quite well I thought, only issue with signage was after the last water point just after a dam, there was an incorrectly placed arrow that caused a bit of confusion but we followed the tracks and I sorted out the arrow board.

With all the security some b@stards still managed to steal my mates wife's MTB. She was seated in the car waiting for her 40km start time while he started the 70km. Then I see on book face that Jaco Ferreira's bakkie was also stolen.

is it Deons wife.

You are right, the golf carts will get caught out by the corrugations and imagine how they will handle the thick sand.

You're right. That is a really nasty sand trap! Did the 'riders' remember to rake it after crossing through it?

On the 35km, i only found 1 climb that was un-rideable by the average joe (at about the 11km mark), and it was only the initial climb along a ridge . The other climbs that followed (zig zagging all the way up and over the hill) was surprisingly quite ride-able. I think the fact that it wasn't one long straight climb (like the Cullinan walk-a-thon session) but short climbs followed by a flat section (or dip) giving just enough space to get back on your bike gave me alot more confidence to ride the climbs it. Even Van Gaalens' climbs was just a tad too long per section making it impossible to try ride it out once you've dismounted.

I was however on a dual suspension bike, so i have no clue what all the grass "polle" complaints are about, since i don't recall any of that on the half marathon. I however wasn't a fan of those funny cement small brick paving effect on the downhill, i thought my wheel was coming off or something (must've been the angle those bricks were and the size of my wheel). I guess they are suitable for car wheels.

Oh. On another look I think I see some part of it on the black route. Correct?

Yes. But please note there is, as of this morning, a problem with one of the owners on Rinkhals. The amount of litter left on the route has already threatened our access. We will post more on that shortly. Riders need to get on board with this.

Unacceptable....I just don't get the mentality of some.

Yeah, same thing at the water points. There is a HUGE bin, just after the water tables, but still, just throw your cup down, someone will pick up after you! Pathetic really...

I enjoyed the ride. The trail was fantastic: technical bits, crazy climbing, crazy descents, long flat wide stretches, single track - very testing. The heat was a killer and I wasn't as fit as I thought I was, coming in 30 minutes later than what I was hoping for. Will definitely be back on these trails. Only thing, which is a given in the trailseekers, is the traffic, the walkers always kill on the ups and downs.

The missus did her first half marathon on Saturday, and came in swearing and bruised, but also loved it. Even managed that first 10km climb without walking it.

Kudos to the couple (I assume) doing the marathon on a tandem. Was amazing to see them ride the climb @10km

First order of priority for Hakahana: BEER LICENSE. When I got in, the ice in our coolerbox had melted and the beers weren't very cold :(
