From what I've heard from a bike mechanic who works with the stuff, he says stick with DI2. Shimano have been at it for a while now and have multiple ranges on offer (okay 2) but either way the new stuff is second generation and things have greatly improved, precise and fast shifting. As for EPS, he says Campy haven't quite got dialled it in just yet, they still need some time and R&D before it is on par with DI2.

Not sure you'll find many guys that have ridden both.I've ridden DA DI2 and it's shifting is fast and precise.

From what i have heard is that shifting with EPS is slower than DI2.

You can hide the battery in the seatpost with DI2.

A few guys complained that they bumped the shift lever when standing and climbing with the EPS.

If you ride Campy then stick with what you know.

Strange as Campag have been testing the EPS for years unlike Shimano that that gave it to a few Pro teams to test and then released it.

My brother is currently riding with Campagnolo Record EPS. Shifting is precise and quick. However JJ Cycling has replaced his 1st groupset as he had battery issues. They have also recently replaced the charger as it was faulty as well..

Very interesting, maybe was a case of two EPS systems coming in with issues as opposed to one Shimano. Plus a little bias, or EPS is more effort to install so he tries to avoid it.

jeez did you win the lotto? New small holdings, etc... ;)

I think the price on EPS is going to be about 10k more than the Di2 :)

bah - i wish. I saw DI2 in action the other day and i've been trying to figure out a way to afford it. I'm interested in the difference between the 2. I've had record 10spd for ~5yrs now, but am not particularly brand loyal. if DI2 works better then I'd look @ that

having said all that, they both look farking expensive. Like ~30k for full groupset. At this stage theres no way I can justify spending 30k on some shiny shifters

ive got mechanical Super record, its flawless.

I've read somewhere it shifts at 0.45s per shift and EPS at 0.38s per shift. and i like the feeling of the solid shift.

I've felt Ultegra DI2 and its not for me. the shift buttons are just to close for comfort. Probly something to get used to.

From what I've read is that EPS is a more solid feeling than DI2.

Good luck, any choice would be a good one.

Slightly off topic re eps vs Di2

When/if anybody out there buys Dura ace 9070 and soon the new ultegra di2 and you opt for the internal battery SM BTR2 and cabling, don't go for the internal cabling kit, the internal cabling kit comes with the mount for an external battery, so you pay close to R3000 for 4 cables and the SM JC 41junction box. Rather buy cables individually (you will need 4) lengths depend on your frame and the junction box that's it. Will save you around a R1000

I upgraded my triathlon bike from mechanical. dura ace 9070 11 speed di2 only has a single button bar end shifters that only operate the rear dérailleur. A bit pointless in the whole spirit of di2 methinks. Get the SW r 671 shifters 2 buttons on each for front and rear shifting.

I don't know how di2 works yet as I was supplied with the single button shifters and when opening the packaging box a big note appeared that stated that these items are prototypes and should be destroyed after photography session. Contacted shimano dealers here and I was told that those should never have been supplied to the retailer. They will order another set and exchange. Three months down the line I am still waiting.

Shimano dealers here are passing the buck to the local bike shop and the local bike shop blames the supplier.

This gave me time to dig around

In SA they list the price for the single shifters as the same as the double button shifters. In Europe there is a substantial price difference between the two with the double buttons about R1000 cheaper. Last week I ordered the double buttons from bike-discount.de and they were with me within 5 days. Will fit and ride soon.

Bike-discount.de and bike24.com are rather cheaper than anybody here and they have stock. di2 is also easy to install, if you can turn a torque wrench ....Bob's your uncle.
