I rode Huddle park this morning, well marked out short routes, do green route 3 or four times - will be a good work out. Ideal for early morning or late afternoon ride.  Need to support this initiative as Huddle park has been "saved" for all to use,  not just golfers - great piece of greenbelt in the city where we can ride being secure. No charge for now - dont know what they will charge but will happily pay a reasonable fee R20 -R40. Check out http://www.huddlepark.com/ and you will see why it is worth supporting.

Pity they only open at 7am though. will try and fit in some after work rides. will force me to get to work earlier so i can leave earlier.

I arrived at 0630, there was a guy in the golf office and he signed me, maybe just lucky....

Night rides on a Wed are great, but what about Mon, Tue , Thurs?

I would totally second that except you are on the wrong thread. :whistling:  get hold of them on social media - might help. Maybe if lots of us start enquiring ....

Rode Huddle Park yesterday afternoon, what a messy, stinky sewer of a ride.. The wet, muddy areas are actually free flowing raw sewerage which you have to cross 5-9 times on the ride. Do not mind getting muddy and wet, but please not raw sewage.

At places, there is no markers, so you do not get to know which way to go. Some markers swung around showing the opposite way one came from.??

The bike washbay is nice, pity about the hose that is leaking and spraying water all over the place except where you direct it.Hose has been fixed with a plastic bag.

Come on guys, fix this place up a bit, so much potential.

Hi All

I am the only trail builder at Huddle Park. Thank you for all your feedback and support. I would like to give you a quick update on where the track is and what we are trying to do.

Firstly, as you know, we share the ground with a golf course. Initially we overlapped but after putting up the new netting, the trail now no longer interferes with the golfers.

In terms of the trail itself, the route has been changed into one trail starting next to the mashie course 1st tee box and ending at the pro-shop area (creating a ring). We do not have a farm like Modderfontein and we cannot realistically offer trails of their distance. With time we will definitely cut new trail. As of now the trail is about 8/9km and we are looking to extend it down to the other end of the course as well.

Over the last 2 weeks a huge amount of work has gone into clearing vegetation on the trail which seemed to have shot up after the rains. We have made good progress and after recutting, sweeping and spraying the trail is looking great.

As some of you may know, Huddle Park is a wetland area and we naturally collect most of the run-off water in the area. This caused recent problems as it created a lot of mud. we have been building ladder bridges all week to amend the issue. This is our first rainy season so please bare with me. I have never seen so much mud.

As for the marking of the trail: After the past few weeks cutting and clearing the trail, we hope to have made it a lot clearer. We will be replacing markers this week as many have been covered by the massive vegetation growth. Also, our previous map was rubbish, I made it on powerpoint and it was very confusing. I apologise. A new map is on its way which clearly shows the route. A new map and the re-cut should make the trail more familiar and easier to navigate.

As far as the charge for the track. It is R20 and it will stay at R20 for the time being. We are aware that we cannot charge you R40 for a product not worth R40 and until we feel the track is at that level we will not do so. Please understand that I commute to CT and all the resources used to build the track have come from Huddle Park and our own in-house labour and equipment. Our small team of guys are kept plenty busy maintaining a beautiful golf course so please bare with us. I assure you that all money earned from the trail goes back into the trail. In the future the administration will definitely create memberships/multiple ride options.

Feel free to send me any enquiries on my email

Good to hear more tracks will be added. Rode recently and was getting overgrown so good to hear tracks have been cleared. Huddle has huge potential to be a great riding venue, we need to continue supporting them in giving us a place to ride in the suburbs off the roads. Thanks Jess for efforts, I enjoy riding Huddle park.

Rode Huddle Park this morning, routes have been cleared and the yellow route is great. Lots of work has been done, there is mud, bad section has been covered by "bridges", rest not bad, it is a MTB trail after all. It is getting better - good safe place to ride without having to travel far.

I have ridden Huddle a couple of times the last week, and I recommend it, especially for those living in the area. My recommendation is based on the following:-

1. The new trails and route, whilst short,  are really awesome. 3 or 4 loops, or 1 loop combined with a ride around some of the close by hills is a good weekday workout - a  lot more enjoyable than a spinning class or the idt;

2. It's a safe zone. I have been riding there alone, and feel perfectly safe - free of traffic stress, its a little oasis.

3. For newbies trying to get fitness up, its a non intimidating environment - 1 loop will be more than enough for a beginner.

4. Ideal for kids;

5. R20 gets you entry for a day, well worth it in my book.

Popped in yesterday for the first time since they started charging.

Comments

1. Guy in the pro shop wasn't very helpful when he just pointed in the general direction where I should go, I ended up going the way it used to be in the beginning, which I think was wrong.

I might have ridden over a bit of golf course I shouldn't have - I saw a guy fishing golf balls out of a waterhole so I rode to him to ask - and he pointed me along - followed his direction, ended up with arrows telling me I was going the wrong way. Rode back to see I I missed a turn somewhere - nope.

2. Has that bit wth the jumps been removed? Yeah it is probably about a year since I've been there.

3. the single track through the trees - good fun.

4. Lots of potential to develop more trails. Hope it becomes worthwhile to do that. Glad the mtb trails are separate from the doggy trails.. Not having to avoid doggy doo.

5. The ground squirrels there are a hoot :)

I rode there yesterday. So I ride it as part of cycling from home and ride Linksfield ridge then Huddle and back home. Like that it is a half decent workout. It is safe clean and in winter the lack of mud is welcome with it being a wetland. It is a fun ride and a proper trail now not a grass track as before. Can see work has been done and the new clockwise loop starts left of the driving range. Some of the berms are a bit off line but the obstacles are fun and I enjoyed the trail. It would be great to extend the end downhill trees line to the bottom end of the course as there is space there and it will add distance for sure.
